Default PowerDVD not working...

Hey guys
in need of some help here
I have PowerDVD 7.3 that came with LG Bluray driver.
I bought some blurays yesterday and everytime I played it, my windows 7 went to the blue screen of death.. so I reinstalled the program (powerdvd) and it kept telling me 'critical component.. periodic update.. etc' so I click yes for update and tells me it's done updating but it does the same thing.
endless looop.

I did some research online but came to no solution..
apparently, something to do with AACS??

I did the update aftter thee reinstall but there's no further update just the endless loop..

How do I fix this issue?
also I haven't played bluray for awhile prior to this and in between that time, my graphics card got updated (GTX 470).

Two questions (pulled from Windows 7 forum users experiencing similar problems):
  • When you installed PowerDVD, did you use the pre-installation option to run as Administrator?
  • Prior to installation, did you run Compatibility Mode For XP SP3?
PowerDVD 7.3 is not compatible with Windows 7; this was confirmed by CyberLink Technical Support (W7 compatibility started with PowerDVD 9.xx). Running in XP Compatibility Mode could address this (this is hit-or-miss with users).

Also, have you downloaded and installed the latest patch (CyberLink.4617a_TaRe38_DVD081201-07 Date: 2008-12-08) from Cyberlink's website? (Don't upgrade through the program; head to the official website to download the PowerDVD 7.3 v4617 patch)

Not a problem. There is an excellent write-up (with screen caps) that illustrate how to do both here.

ok...
downloaded the trial version of PowerDVD 10 and it is now working flawlessly..until trial date expires I guess.
I know my version came with the bluray drive but still..
lack of update and their idea of 'update' is sending me in a loop and crashing my computer countless times.. and forcing me to upgrade then I might just go buy ArcSoft instead of cyberlink. You gave me enough headaches already.

if anyone else is having this issue.. I think only way to really solve it is to buy the latest version. Crashing your computer is their idea of telling you to upgrade.

Strangely enough, that was Cyberlink Technical Support's response to the situation (i.e. 7.3 not working in Windows 7). Just a canned response letter to consumers that 7.3 wasn't supported in MS' latest and greatest OS, followed by a plug for an upgrade to the current PowerDVD installment.

10 works very well (so did 9 for me), as far as handling Blu-ray playback. I don't think I ever installed the 7.x disc that came with my LG drive.

oh well.. thanks for the help anyway!
I still got 28 days or so for the trial so I guess I'll try to watch as much bluray as I possibly can.

Also... I don't think the new powerDVD10 handles DVD too well. It wasn't showing 24p properly.
