Default 50PZ800U or wait until April for the new models?

I know this has been covered in a million threads (many of which have been my questions) but I wanted to create a new thread.

Looking around $2000, Amazon has the 800U back in stock. Should I go for it or wait until the 2009 models arrive?

THANK YOU!

(most imporant features = 24fps playback, THX mode, picture quality)

yeah your best bet will be to wait for the new ones to come in so the price will drop some.

I guess what I meant to ask is if the new models will be around the same price, but better quality?

To simplify...

If I buy the 800U today, is there a 2009 model that will come out for a similar price that is going to make me slap myself for not waiting?

No the new models will be worse in quality, like Panasonic do every year.

Panasonic is no longer producing these TVs, so by April it is likely that the TV won't be available.

If you want to wait for the new TVs you will likely have to wait a while for the price to drop. I bought my PZ800U in June after watching the price closely since it was released. It initially was much more expensive, but gradually came down in price.
I would recommend buying the PZ800U. It's a great TV and I haven't had any problems.

I've read speculation that the new 54"V10 may cost around 2400-2800.

800U truly is an incredible set. I doubt highly that PQ is going to take a big leap forward in next year's models. What is attractive though is the new 54" size, possible 24p flicker fix, and thin design.

Research the new models that are coming out this spring/ summer and then decide if you are willing to wait that long (only 6 months) or do you want one right now that almost all agree to be a killer tv.

Well, If I can truly get a 58" S NEO PDP for $2499 (as mentioned in the thread below), then that's what I'm holding out for!

I highly, highly doubt you will be able to get a new 58" for 2499, considering its hard to find the 58" 800U at that price.

So with the price of the Pioneer 5020 basically being the same...

Why would you consider the Panny over it?

If the US economy stays where it is for the next 4-6 months, I wouldn't doubt being able to get luxury items like new FPDs for really good prices. If it's a choice between making a small profit or none at all, the CE manufacturers will choose smaller profits.

It's $2,469 at BuyDig with free shipping and no tax and they're BBB.org certified.

The more I hear about this TV, the more I want it. It was on sale at Sears last I checked ($1400) and, man, I wanted it. My fiance is watching closely though, as the wedding draws near.

I only hope it performs well, I plan to upgrade later this year. My Samsung performs VERY well, but is only 720. Weird thing is.. nobody seems to have this TV. I might be the only one of this forum with this model.

I'd get this TV if I were you.

Anybody know how this compares to a Philips set? I was at Sam's and saw a 1080p 52" philips set for $1200.

I really want the 58" but the 24p flickering is the only thing holding me back. I think Id rather get the 5020 to have a more future proof tv.

The 5020 is a sweet set no doubt, but if you want the larger size and you don't want the filmic look the 58" models in the V-Series from Panasonic coming out this year will have 4:4 pulldown at 96Hz, which will be smooth 24Hz reproduction. There will also be a 54" size too.

The problem is, a the price jump I think is going to be bigger than people here expect. Also Ive never seen 24p in action and dont think Id really notice the difference.
