Default Warner Bros. Gets "Lethal Weapon"-ish "Fully Automatic"

From Variety...

Quote:
Wayne Kramer has been set by Warner Bros. to direct “Fully Automatic.”

Pic is a buddy action film in the vein of “Lethal Weapon” and is being produced by Joel Silver, whose Silver Pictures launched that franchise for WB.

Story follows two rookie cops out to make their mark and who team with a female former Delta Force operative to stop a mercenary who has stolen a cache of weapons.

The most recent draft was written by Marc Wolff. The hope is to get the film into production later this year.

Kramer, who’ll do a pass on the script, last directed “Running Scared” and “The Cooler.” He most recently completed writing and directing “Crossing Over,” which will be released Feb. 27 by the Weinstein Co.

Kramer's repped by Endeavor and Artist Talent Mgmt.

Default spell check? lol.

errr, might that be "Lethal Weapon-ish" -- I mean it even talks about LETHAL WEAPON in the story.

sounds like a good idea thought; 2 young cops and a female (ex-?) special forces type character.

How does that not sound tired, too similar and/or something that has been done countless times before?

True! But, Hollywood is not known for it's Bastion of Originality now is it?! As noted, it "Could" be good, given a good script, good director, good casting, etc. -- I mean look at what Matt Damon's been able to do with the Bourne franchise. Basically re-invented the Spy thriller action flick, and if they get Paul Greengrass back for a 4th one, I have No Doubt it will kick as much if not More Ass then the last 2 offerings. That guy is a Great Director.

Obviously, it is too early too make any assumptions regarding this film. However, other films (GI Joe) after the casting is selected and the movie is complete, give you a sense of how bad they are going to be. I could be wrong, but I have a "feeling" about it.
