Default DNR and MPEG NR on or off?

I have a Toshiba Regza and want to know...

1. When watching Blu-ray with PS3 should MPEG Noise Reduction and Digital Noise Reduction be turned off? Low? Middle? High? Auto?

I turned Black Stretch off. It makes a big difference.

2. Are these features for improving DVD viewing?

For DVD, I would leave it atleast at low, high on some bad DVD transfers. All it will do is smooth out the picture and hide marcro blocking among other things such as bad jaggies and the misquito effect.

However, for Blu-ray, I would turn OFF the noise reduction. It takes away from Picture Quality. But yeah most diff give it a shot for DVDs, I think you would be happy.

Note: I would turn off the Noise reduction on your TV and turn the one on is the PS3 including Misquito Noise as well. I think letting the player doing the noise reduction is slightly better than letting your TV alter the image.

Cool

I would keep all DNR settings to off to get the true picture off the BD

i agree. DNR settings introduce all kinds of digital noise into your picture. You should really leave these settings off

For Blu:

DRN settings = off
Sharpness = off

Hey guys! Im new to forum, but have been checking in for the past couple of months since I got my HDTV. Question.

Does the PS3 have NR features? I've tweaked every possible video setting on my PS3 and never encountered anything to do with NR.

Also, I have found that using NR and MPEG NR on my TV only reduces film grain. With no loss in color or details. The only major differences I see are when switched off or High. HIGH does smooth out the PQ and makes it look soft, while OFF increases grain and makes it sharper. So I leave it on Medium. PQ still looks amazing!
