Scarlett Johansson as Black Widow in Iron Man 2?!

Oh no, please say it's not true! According to Entertainment Weekly, Marvel has been talking with Scarlett Johansson about replacing Emily Blunt as Natasha Romanoff aka Black Widow in the upcoming Iron Man 2. The original news about Blunt taking the role first hit in January, but then at the end of Janaury we reported that Fox had forced her, due to a contract signed for The Devil Wears Prada, to give up Iron Man 2 to take on Gulliver's Travels instead. So if Blunt couldn't make her schedule work, who would they get instead? Presumably someone else just as talented, right? Nope, they're looking at Scarlett Johansson!

EW claims that, "Marvel will not confirm, but sources around Hollywood say Johansson has indeed met with the filmmakers and is interested." Here's the thing about Johansson - when she first starred in Lost in Translation, I thought she was fantastic. But then came In Good Company, the first of her flops. She wasn't bad in The Prestige, but she wasn't good either. And with The Spirit and now He's Just Not That Into You, I've come to hate her. She's only about the sex appeal, not about the performance. And it's annoying seeing her try to act in bad roles when all that anyone cares about it is how much cleavage we get to see.

What I'm saying is that I think Johansson just needs the right kind of role to succeed in and those don't come that often. She was actually good in Woody Allen's last few movies, but that's because I think only he can get that kind of performance out of her. For the most part though, I'm not fond of her acting anymore. So with that said, I really do not want to see Scarlett Johansson in Iron Man 2 at all. Emily Blunt, on the other hand, is both an incredible actress and beautiful and would've been perfect. I really hope this rumor falls through and Blunt gets the role or it's handed off to someone just as capable.

I don't think it would be a good idea myself, but am willing to take a wait and see approach.

The last role I enjoyed Johansson in was when she was just a young teen in 'The Horse Whisperer'....way back in 98'.

"Why the second thoughts?" is what I'm wondering. They already have the star power for box office draw. Personally, I like the "going with your instincts" approach on casting. Stick with your original choice people!

Not that I have anything against Scarlett. She is an enjoyable actress.

Iron Man doesn't seem like the type of movie Scarlett is attracted to. She seems to prefer "Film Festival" type movies.

The problem is Blunt signed a contract for Gulliver's Travels before Iron Man 2 and the production times conflict. You'd think they could work around it. How many days of filming would she be needed for anyway?

Personally, I doubt Black Window's part would be big, she would only probably be in it a few scenes I would think, maybe towards the end when they possibly set up The Avenger in the war room or something

Eliza Dushku is lobbying for the part herself:

“They’re doing ‘Iron Man 2,’ and I’m so perfect for the Black Widow character, that they just need to get into it,” said Dushku. “They need to understand… I just learned Russian because I had to play a Russian girl in ‘Dollhouse.’ Maybe we could all tell them. Lets get on a Black Widow Iron Man 2 campaign.”

Dushku is better suited for the role than Johansson, think of it this way:

Dushku has been in roles where a great deal of training has been required. Johansson has been in Woody Allen movies {and only Woody Allen movies from what I can recall} over the last few years.

Dushku looks the part, Johansson does not.

Dushku knows Russian... Johansson can giggle alot.

So, you see that Dushku is better suited for the role, I'm not sure what you're meaning by 'stardom' and 'missed the boat' Johansson is 24, and Dushku is only 28, that's a pretty big 4 year difference there.

Dushku is in a soon-to-be hit show, Johannson has been in Woody Allen movies for the past little while {yes, I'm mentioning it twice due to the absurdity of the situation}
