Default The Worst Decade in Film

What was the worst decade for films? For reference, please also indicate the decade you were born.

I was born in the '70s. And I cast my vote for the 1980s as the worst decade ever in film.

I was born in '85. It's a tough decision between the 80s and the 90s for me. I think I lean more towards the 80s as well though.

Easily the last decade. More CGI, more (and more and more) superhero flicks, more mindless action, more dumbing down. Certainly there were still good films being made, but strong writing, solid characters, sharp dialogue and original ideas were definitely the minority.

Born in 1960.

2000-2009 though I'm not sure 'worst' is the way I would phrase it. Obviously some decades are better than others (the 70s were incredible, for instance) but I'm not sure any of them are particularly bad.

The bad stuff might be a little more brainless in this decade or that and the good stuff might be a little harder to find but even the 'bad' decades have some awfully good stuff. I went with the previous decade because so much of the best stuff seems to be foreign and because several genres (sci-fi, horror and comedy chiefly) have taken 'lowest common denominator' to new lows.

How can you dudes totally not love the 80s?!

I was born in the 80s, so that might make me biased. I'm not really sure what the worst decade would be; it's tempting to refer the 2000s for all its remakes, reboots, sequels, overblown CGI, etc, but I gotta admit that a lot of good films have come out in the last ten years. So that I just leaves the 50s imo; that was a time when we were just bombarded with musicals, cheesy sci-fi, and very little that was really groundbreaking.

2000's - "Battlefield Earth," "Anus Magillicutty," "Epic Movie," "Son of the Mask," "Glitter," "Birdemic: Shock and Terror," "The Hottie & The Nottie," "Disaster Movie," "The Hillz," "From Justine to Kelly," "Pledge This!" and "Superbabies: Baby Geniuses 2" just to name a few. Also, 3 of the above starred Paris Hilton so do I need to say more?

Actually now that I have thought about this more, I am changing my pick to...

2000-2009

due to the AWFUL teal/orange color shift and that other color regrading FAD that most films are using now.

I mean...do we really need a yellow shift applied to the first half of 'Marley and Me' because the audience is not smart enough to know that it gets hot in Florida, and is that bit of info even important to the story anyway?

(born in the sixties)

.

Born in the 80's and child of the 90's. 80's hands down the worst.

In my opinion...

-Goonies...crap
-Indiana Jones....fun, great soundtrack and overall good till they raped it with squeals.
-Ghostbusters....crap
-Breakfast club...Like eating crap for breakfast.
-Back to the Future....ehhh, I'm glad it was made tho.
-War Games....crap
-Neverending Story..I shit blood for a week.
-E.T....crap
-Red Dawn....neo-con wet dream and piss poor movie...I was hoping the Russians would drop a nuclear bomb on my forehead half-through this nut stomping.
-Karate Kid....Just jump kick me in the throat and end my misery already.
-Footloose...crap
-The Princess Bride - Inconceivable you say?...I say crap.
-Dirty Dancing...Not nearly dirty enough + crap...
-Blade Runner....Little kids dying to see Return of the Jedi went to see Ford in a visually stunning crapfest and it stuck with them till today where they get a hard on for it due to the nostalgia factor. Do we really need 74 cuts of this? That many cuts and it still sucks harder then a crack addict fiending for a hit.

Sad because it was the decade of Cinema Paradiso, Raging Bull, David Lynch, Paris Texas, Kubrick, Fanny and Alexander.

I would have to vote the last decade even though there were a few gems.

It is easily 2000-2009. It's not that there are not any good films in this era, but, in comparison it surely has the least.

I completely agree. there are some fantastic movies being made today but in general the studio pictures seem to be getting worse by the year.

I voted for the 1960's. I guess Americans had better things to do in that decade then go to a movie theater. Basically the movies are really stylized and locked into a "hip" genre culture. All the Elvis films, Beach Blanket Bingo, Frankie Avalon, motorcycle race films etc...

I really hope this was a joke post

My vote is for the 60's, but only because I don't think I own too many from that decade
