Is there an IMAX documentary that rivals Planet Earth in terms of video quality released?
I've read reviews of some of them, some got 4 out of 5. Makes me wonder why they aren't 5 out of 5, as it's not stated why they didn't get all five. thanks in advance. |

my faves are
Journey to Amazing Caves - not real sure how this is going to look on a non-IMAX screen since the imagery was meant to projected onto a huge screen. The cinematography is stunning. Super Speedway - I can't wait to see this on blu, let alone here it, it has one of the loudest soundmixes... ever! Cirque Du Soliel: Journey of Man - the DVD looks like crap, I hope a bluray improves upon the DVD's flaws. |

Saw this and was wondering if there are any reviews or opinions...
Mother Earth Blu-ray 5-Pack (IMAX) [Blu-ray] Titles included in this 5-Disc collection are Africa, The Serengeti Alaska, Spirit of the Wild Antarctica, An Adventure of a Different Nature Ocean Oasis Australia, Land Beyond Time http://www.amazon.com/Mother-Earth-B...3107846&sr=8-1 $41 for 5 IMAX films seems like a good deal if the PQ and AQ is there and has a certain "WOW" factor (which IMAX should have). I know the movies are short (they are generally made for Science Museums), and are rather symplistic documentaries (I am not expecting "Planet Earth"). But I would want stunning imagery and a top notch transfer... Last edited by Raymond23; 01-28-2009 at 01:10 AM. |

i've seen a ton of these (the second largest screen, an omnimax, in north america is about 20 minutes from me). it's without a doubt my all-time favorite imax film. some of the common pitfalls of the imax film are that they are frequently superficial, and they tend talk down to the audience. many of them are also rampant with utter cornball atmosphere - even the strictly science-based ones. the living sea does none of the first two, and only has hints of the third. the visuals are frequently mind-boggling, and the sound is equally impressive (if you like sting you'll really like it). check it out. --note: i'm strictly referring to the short film imax format, which typically run from 35-60 minutes. --note2: i just remembered epic journeys: the great migrations. that's really good, too (not as good as TLS, though). don't think it's available, however. Deep Sea is ok. probably the only documentary i've seen in an imax theater... and i don't think it's on bluray yet either. but it's narrated by Johnny Depp and Kate Winslet...
it's a deep-ocean marinelife documentary if you didn't pick that up from the title. This title is a perfect companion to Blue Planet and Planet Earth |
