I apologize in advance if anyone thinks this is a silly idea but I thought I'd start this thread as an alternative to the "What's On Your Mind?" thread. This thread is meant specifically to address any of the above questions that we all face every day as human beings.

Well, my only encounters with law enforcement was getting ticketed for riding a bicycle along a Subway platform and being falsely accused of beating the fare (also in the Subway). That latter incident I got away with a warning but only because the cop's pen ran out of ink so he couldn't write me a summons. I DID NOT try to beat the fare, though. The cop was either blind or trying to fill a quota.

I've been fired from two jobs. You pick yourself up, dust yourself off and start again. I've been at my current job for 23 years(!).

I've met lots of celebrities through my job as a doorman/concierge. My most memorable encounter was being grilled by Tony Soprano. "What do you people do here?" he asked of the type of business I worked for. And Donald Sutherland strutted in one time and asked me if I'd seen his wife. I had no idea who his wife was at the time. I assume he expected me to know The best encounter was running into Warren Beatty in the Subway. I was wearing a souvenir NYPD jacket and I guess he thought I was a cop. He goes, "Do you know who I am?". I think he was lost and thought I'd escort him back to Manhattan (it was a rough neighborhood at the time). I told him "No" and walked away. Kind of felt bad afterwards.

Great idea for a topic! To answer your questions-

1. Misplaced your keys? I've misplaced my keys many times, but never lost them. They always turn up under or in something. I don't keep a physical wallet- I live in NY, so I never keep cash on me, and I keep what few cards I have in my phone case. God forbid I'd ever lose that, or I'd be screwed

2. Gotten stuck in an elevator? . Elevators falling is one of my big fears, so this is on my mind every time I get in one. I haven't yet, thank goodness, but movies certainly don't help. Nothing good ever comes from being stuck in an elevator, even though every time I've heard of it happening in real life, everything turns out fine.

3. Missed a flight? . This is another of my big anxieties. I will literally get to an airport 4 hours before a flight and sit at the gate. Ain't no way I'm missing a flight!

4. Arrested/Detained? Never been arrested, but I was detained. Stole some food when my family was near homeless. It was a whole thing.

5. Fired from a job? . I've never been fired, but I've been laid off from a few jobs. I tend to like most of my jobs, so quitting has never really been an option for me.

6. Ever been dumped? . Yes. I've always been the dumpee. I don't know. Call me optimistic, but unless things are really, really, bad, I always try to work things out. I've only broken up with someone once, because they ghosted me for about a month, save a few random texts here and there. I will say- it felt strange to do, but good.

7. Been mugged? Haven't been mugged yet, but again, living in NY, it's on my mind alot.

8. Death of a loved one/pet I have indeed. I've lost 3 people in my life that I'd say really, really affected me. My best friend committed suicide when I was 13, my father passed away when I was 20, and my aunt passed away the following year. All 3 have stuck with me, and there are times when they really bog me down. It's a looooong story about my dad, but that's something I'll carry with me forever, I think. And because I'd moved to NY at the time, and my aunt lived in MO, I wasn't able to make it to her funeral, and that's something that I've regretted ever since. As for pets- I've had a few in my time. I've never seen any of them die, but I feel like having to give them away can be just as bad.

9. Car accident? A few fender benders. On my first date with someone a few years back, when I still had my first car, I was so nervous, and the roads were so icy, that I ended up rear-ending a person and because the hood of my car was slanted downward, it essentially wedged itself under the rear of the other person's car. But I still went on to date that person for a solid half year!

10. Lost anything in a fire? Not yet, thank goodness.

11. (Stolen anything?) Other than a few hearts? As previously mentioned, I stole some food from the place I worked (stupid, right).

12. Won Anything? . I've won a few small lotto tickets before, and a few lotteries to see Broadway shows. But that's about it.

13. Gotten beat up? I used to get beaten up SO much in high school. I was that quiet, nerdy theatre kid who used to get called gay and get shoved into lockers. And then there was my dad, but that's a WHOLE other story.

14. Met a celebrity in person? I stage door alot of shows, so I've seen Jeff Daniels and Michelle Williams from their show Blackbird a few years ago. I saw the lead singer of Panic! At the Disco from Kinky Boots, Tony Shalhoub, Lin-Manuel Miranda, etc. Amy Poehler and Bruce Campbell came to eat at a restaurant I worked in a few years ago. And I (literally) bumped into Meryl Streep at the opera a few years back and nearly pissed myself. She was super kind about it!

Sorry for the long post. Thought it was a really good idea. And now a question of my own-

I've actually had nightmares about missing flights. It's never actually happened to me but I know a few people who have some pretty scary horror stories. You DON'T want to miss your flight lol.

On the subject of losing loved ones - we've all lost someone close and it's never easy. I lost my mom to Cancer 4 months ago and not a day goes by that I don't think about her. She was only 63 . I've lost uncles, grandfathers, friends over the years but nothing hit me as hard as losing my mom. I've held it together pretty well but one of these days it's going to REALLY hit me.

I'm not sure how well I'll handle being stuck in an elevator. I've never really had a problem with claustrophobia but I think it's becoming a problem now. I was in the Caribbean when Hurricane Irma hit last year and the power was out for 4 days. I developed a fear of the dark after it was all said and done. Actually had a minor panic attack. It was very scary.
