Default AndyThorn HT Setup

Hello,

I'm quite new to the forum and have just posted the first pics of my Living Room setup. All the components are listed in my signature, but give me a shout if any more info is required. I've gradually upgraded from a couple of all in one packages , then using PS3 as blu ray player, moved onto a Panasonic BD35 and recently upgraded to the Sony player for its built in wi-fi and speed loading up discs.

I bow to your superior knowledge and would appreciate any advice or comments for improving this.

Let me know what you think??

Looks nice, welcome to the site. Only improvement I would say would be to raise ur bookshelf speakers up so the sweeter meets ur ear level

Otherwise you have a very good looking system

Good advice from the other members. The only other think I can add is that's a pretty lame introduction. You really put effort into it.

Man you came to the wrong site In a couples of months the upgrade itch will bite you and we will spend all your money in upgrades But nicely done and there`s a lot of potential in that room and i am also with HAMP regarding your tv stand ... too low for me .

don't listen to these cretins Andy, they know not of what they speak.

just look at some of their setups and you'll know what i'm talking about.

on a more serious note, your system is pretty cool (better than mine, which isn't difficult to do).

but i will echo the others and say that the tv does seem to be a little low. but if it's satisfactory to you, then that's all that matters.

and yes, the upgrade bug will bite you pretty quickly. you can't help it. you get it from this site. it's carried by almost all members and is HIGHLY contagious. there is no cure, there is no stopping it, there is only keeping it in check with money.

in your future, i can see a wall mount, an external amp, tower speakers, and full 7.1 sound.

start saving now.

trust me, it'll hit ya in shortly. and all you'll really remember is trying to explain to your wife/significant other the amount of money you're spending and why you need these upgrades (unless you're single, then your good to go).

oh yeah, and welcome to the site.

Thanks for all the replies guys, really do appreciate the input. I have always been put off wall mounting the TV due to the upgrade bug! This is my fourth TV in about as many years....

When sat on the sofa the top of the TV is at eye level, so I don't think I am losing out colour or contrast wise, but can see where you are all coming from!

As you have probably guessed I am married with kids and have a wife who tolerates my hooby as loong as it has the least amount of impact on the living room - I did originally have speaker stands for the fronts, but they just took up a bit too much room.

The centre/sats are the Alumni series - but the sub is from the Genie range - seems to intergrate well though.

Just rated/viewed, and that is a nice setup. Welcome aboard. Stay away from these forums, unless you want to open a gaping hole in your wallet and dive deep into the realm of HT customization

Yeah sk33tr - don't do yourself down man. There is nothing wrong with that set up! Might need to ship you over to UK to do a bit of cable management for me too...

Thanks again for all the comments - do love to spin Avatar for first class picture and sound, now if only I could get a decent picture of it without camera flash!!

You guys have all got me worried for my marriage with all the talk of upgrades.......hope somebody is going to be able to put me up when I get booted out for buying a 3D display?? Of coarse that means the Onkyo would also need to be replaced!!!

Oh no.....

Pandora's Box...but it just means you have to have a double savings system for the wife. New Receiver = New Earrings, new TV = Necklace, etc.

You bring the 3d display and receiver here you can crash at my place. Nice setup you have going. I'd recommend wall mounting the tv and l/r speakers for optimal viewing/listening like others have suggested.

It's not hard at all, I will admit a bit scary at first. Just make sure you get into a stud behind that wall.

Come to think about it. I seen someone on this site with a stand that has a tall wall as part of it. It's design is rather unique and you don't have to look for any studs. I do believe they were in the UK as well.

It may take me some time to come across it again, but when I do, I will make sure to post it.

I don`t know about in England but around here we use studs finders like these ( well i have this one )

Or you can use the very old hammer with a nail to find the 2X4 in the wall .

Here is what I was trying to explain. There is another one I had seen, but this should give you an idea.
