Why are Apple being so stubborn of not offering their laptops with Blu-ray drives? Do they really think that we would prefer to rent their HD movies for $4.99 at 720p while we can rent Blu-ray unlimited for $18.00 a month at full 1080p? If we just rent 4 Blu-ray discs a month, that would beat Apple's price hands down at higher quality. On top of that, I have to buy their Apple TV and an HDTV while with Netfllix, I can just use my laptop. Not to mention the time it takes to download 25GB of HD quality movies.

Yes, you're supposed to embrace iTunes in HD. According to Apple, Blu-ray is just a bag of hurt. That tells me all i need to know about .... Apple.

eventually is going to happen but my guess is prob not till 2010-2011 from what I heard they are on the board for blu-ray so I dont see why they wouldnt want to use the technology but stated in the above poster article the licensing is just to expensive right now

Why indeed.
Licensing... I have to call BS on this excuse! Acer/Fujitsu/HP/ASUS... etc, all seem to be ok with "licensing" and can seem to afford it. There is no excuse that is valid. There is no reason that is logical. Apple is really dropping the ball on BD. Screw it! Just go get a new iPod or iPhone and think happy thoughts. You can get movies from iTunes and that's good enough. Bag of hurt - yeah. ![]() *NOTE*: I get to hear about it everytime I see (or get a call from) my Mac fanatic neighbor. "What are you doing?" "I was watching ________ Blu-ray, what's up?" #@&*!+##^&!!!! "Sorry guy, go get a VAIO!" ![]() "You can come by here and watch a BD on one of my VAIOs if ya want..." |

I don't think it is Apple being stubborn as much as just business. Apple has a competing product just like MS does, that's all. |

Oh yeah! Totally. Don't get me wrong I didn't mean to imply it was a GOOD idea, I just was saying I UNDERSTAND why it isn't implemented yet.

I can't speak for anyone else, but I have a Imac. Bought it in March of this year, and I was considering getting rid of it and getting a new HP that is also a all in one computer like the Imac. (the monitor is the whole computer). It costs about the same as the Imac but it has a blu ray drive in it. The only reason I didn't do that is because I found this external blu ray drive and decided to see if it would work when I booted up using Windows Vista. To me it is a big deal and I really do want blu ray in my comp, and it sucks that I have to use another operating system to use blu ray. I hope apple corrects this mistake that they are making. |

I don't think Apple users ONLY buy Apple products. Most Apple users have owned both, but not necessarily vice-versa. I want Blu-ray burning. I don't really care about movie playback on the computer. We are going to put a BD burner in our Mac Pro and use Adobe Encore until DVD Studio Pro can support it. I can also do a Quicktime HD master in Final Cut Pro, and import it on to one of our PCs with Sony DVD Architect 5 if I want, and I do that. It's not like I am stuck and out of options because I use Macs.

but the better question is. can drives be made thin enough to fit in the macbooks today? if not, i can imagine them holding off until the whole lineup can have blu-ray, instead of just the desktops when did this become cool internet speak? please include this sort of helpful insight in more threads. |

I doubt you will ever see Blu-ray on an Apple machine at this point. I think they are hoping that Blu-ray does not become a widespread computer format so they can sell video downloads. It appears their membership in the BDA was only to oppose Microsoft and nothing more.

I Agree with you C.K. Apples vision of the future is Digital Distribution, not physical media. I for one agree with it.
Blu-ray can be as successful as it can be and even the nay-sayers against DD can talk all they want with that "must have in hand" nonsense or the slow download speeds but it's an inevitability. Earth simply hasn't the resources to keep this sort of thing up forever. |

Hendra, not trying to be a jerk, but "Apple" is singular, so it would be "Why is Apple being so stubborn........?"
