Default Fandango Buys Vudu

https://www.slashfilm.com/fandango-buys-vudu/

As of right now, all of the official messaging says that Vudu will not be shut down – it will apparently continue to operate, users will continue to have access to their libraries, promotion codes will still valid, and “nothing about your experience on any Vudu apps across devices will be different.” That’s good news in the short term, but I wonder if that decision will stick.

Thank goodness for MA and glad I have moved mostly to Itunes for code redemptions and the occasional purchase.

That said, MAYBE Fandango will give the platform some real attention? I mean, not that FandangoNow was anyone's go-to.

While I agree with this, seems odd your MA colleciton is as large as your physical if you live by those terms.

There are also some things that will never see physical releases that are availabe on streaming.

White Collar - in HD all seasons. While I have these on DVD (and season 1 was the only bluray release)...those DVDs to not look as good as streaming and this is upsetting.

Same thing with 24 (for a more mainstream show). I believe it got a release in Japan but that is about it and Costs a rather absurd amount of money.

Not a fan of streaming but at least VUDU seemed like one of the better ones. It isn't apple, and they have tons of truly free content with minimal ads. The watch and get $2 credit was solid, which made it so I could watch a couple and pickup a streaming version for $1, of which I got some titles that were only released on Twilight Time and wasn't able to get my hands on the physical release.

Also - lame move Walmart. Basically the only thing you offered I had any interest in.

This is going to suck because I'll bet the 2 3D movies I purchased on VUDU are going to disappear. What's worse is they were cheap a couple of weeks ago but wouldn't ship across the pond.

That's why you buy iTunes.

Free 4K upgrades, and Apple is about a sure bet as anything.

iTunes will never go under. It already has a big base implanted and a clientele that spends money.

Hopefully this will get rid of the annoying "related products" bar that shows up underneath some movies in Vudu.

Wal-Mart

Yep. I got the email earlier.

I *hope* they maintain some ties w/ Walmart. I really like InstaWatch. But as time goes on, that may very well go away. But I could see it being replaced with something similar, where a movie ticket purchase gives a credit / discount towards a digital version.

And whatever they say now, they will absolutely eventually integrate Vudu into their own service. They may carry over some things that work really well with Vudu, but in a year or two, Vudu as we know it will no longer exist, only Fandango. You can bet on that.

Yeah I got an email from Vudu about it today.
We’ll see what happens.

I acquired the MA Collection through my phone camera at flea markets and garage sales.

If you want to buy digital, you should be allowed to reserve the full downloaded copy of it on your hard drive and no compression. Same with the way videogames works.

Streaming doesn't give a single @#$% for your ownership once it's taken away from you. People don't want to believe this, karma will teach them the hard way.
