hello there!

okay, basically i want to find something out - i realise that blu-ray is all spangly and shexxay and shtuff. but what i want to know is do i have to get a tv that specifically says, "BLU-RAY WELCOME HERE"?
i'm aware this sounds a bit dumb but d'ya know what? i've gone through various sites, inc. places like samsung, panasonic etc etc and it just doesn't say! is HD-ready enough? or is there some techno term that i'm missing in the specs O_o

help?

HD-Ready is technically enough. If the TV has an HDMI input just make sure it supports decription of HDCP (the copy protection for HD media). If you want to really appreciate HD go for a Full-HD TV with a resolution of 1920x1080 and don't sit further away than 1.5 times your picture width. You'll be like

HD TV's are as good as it gets no special Blu ray TV..........yet (J/k)

It really depends on how much you want to spend, Personally I like Sony but your going to be to person watching it so I would just go to a store and go with what your eyes like, I wouldnt go with a crappy no name brand though.

LCD has a average life of 10 years Plasma life - 7

LCD can also be viewed from any angle where plasmas traditionally have a glare.

1080p vs 720p 1080i Blu Ray was built for 1080p and the future of TV is 1080p so buying a new tv without FULL HD 1080P would in my oppinion be dumb unless you just want a big tv and don't care to much about the Picture Quality and also price concious

Again its your money and your eyes. Brands to look at in order (Oppinion some may disagree)
1.) Sony XBR (My Favorite and what I own)
2.) Sony Bravia (Older Model good $$$)
3.) Samsung
4.) Sharp Aquos
NOW WERE LOOKING AT BETTER PRICED MODELS
5.) LG
6.) Phillips

TV to look at picked it up for my dads BDay yesterday Sony 55" SXRD its a projection so its out of the picture if you want a FLAT SCREEN but if your looking for a quality picture HUGE SCREEN and 1080P for $1899.99 Circuit City then its the way to go

thankies, information overload! [jk] i am leaning towards a samsung/panasonic but still doing mah research - lot of stuff to wade through O_o
helps to have lil places like these where people have sorta done the legwork ^_~

Well personally it is what I have and also in my oppinion has the best PQ and vibrant collors.

The look of the XBR with the Glass frame is also stunning, when you look at it you will know exactly what i'm talking about. Stunning is an understatement.

makes me sound a bit cheap but i want ace resolution, 2x hdmi and 32" does it for me!
took a look at those bravias though and i doff my cap to ya - they look mighty fine ^_^ do you game a lot? would you say having a bigger or smaller screen [then 32"] affects gameplay in the grand scheme of things?

Typically, to pwn someone, at least in video game terms, is to so thoroughly defeat them as to 'own' them. In this case Blu_Ray_UK2007 is saying that gaming on that particular setup really kicks ass.

p.s. the word has a gazillion spellings and pronunciations.

I have a Panasonic 50" plasma which I use for gaming as well as movies and it excels at both. Samsung's look nice but I prefer the slightly warmer tones on the Panasonic.

Whereabouts 'on the edge of London' are you?

WHAT????? Man, what LCD have YOU been watching??? Plasmas are viewable from any angle but they have a very shiny surfaced glass so they CAN pick up glare from a light source directly facing it. Plasmas have better blacks and handle motion better but are more susceptible to Burn-In on static images that sit for more than 6 hours at a time. LCD are more like a laptop computer screen. They look best when viewed direct - or close to it. Their angle of "viewability" is not as wide as plasma. Put it this way... for movies, plasma is best but you'd find it very hard to get a 42" plasma thet does real 1080p. For that you'd have to bump to a larger size. LCD is best for games and you can get 1080p in a 37" and up - sometimes smaller sizes depending on the brand.

40" HDTV to begin with will be a much better experience overall.

But give us your budget for the HDTV. Then let the boys guide you to the best 1080p HDTV that come close to the price.

okay,

firstly, i'm guna look up molesey now cuz i'd never heard of it till now ^_^

secondly, my budget is definately no higher than the one thousand pound mark. i will of course be watching films but to be honest more important for me is the gaming quality cuz i have a sturdy pc for downloading and film watching [shush, i'm poor!]

Molesey is right next to Hampton Court Palace.

Okey dokey, a £1000 is quite a good budget. It's really a toss up between LCD and Plasma, both are excellent for gaming.

Have a look at Richer Sounds for some good prices. Round this way they have stores in Ealing, Chelsea and Kingston and if you go into a store they'll match the price on their website:

LCDs

Plasmas

Depending on what size screen you're after either will be ideal, although for smaller LCD is best and for larger Plasma is best (in general). Do a Google search on the models you're considering and you should be able to dig up a review site or two.

Look for a good contrast ratio (6000:1 or higher) and plenty of compatibility. Sony LCDs are particularly good as are Panasonic Plasmas according to critics.

okay boys! [and girls?]

i bought a tv! went for the sony bravia kdl-40v2500 in the end, [it's BEAUTIFUL] got it home, connected it and wow! i did indeed go ^_~ buuuuuut is the picture ever grainy... i'm at this minute searching through the net for the answer but PLEASE any help would really be appreciated ^_^
