Default Has Hollywood Gone Comic Crazy?

Have the movies gone too far? As far as the comic craze?

Are you tired of it? Or not?

I'm not a fan of the genre.... but numbers don't lie...... they're banking off of these movies, so I don't think they'll go "Too Far" until they start losing money because people are sick of them (and I don't see that happening )

Looking at the big movie releases this year I'd say no. The biggest movies this year are remakes of 80's cartoons.

No. They are just running out of material and looking for a trend to make money. I personally love comics, so if done properly they are wonderful films.

They're cheap to make. They have a built-in fan base.

I haven't wasted a nickel on any of them.

Edit: My mistake, I thought we were discussing "comedies"!

The comic movies are turning cookie-cutter, I hope the quality improves.

I'm loving it. However, I don't think they've gone as far as "comic crazy". There really haven't been that many adaptations. Not merely sufficient enough to get tired of them either.

The good ones are far from cheap.

Comic book movies are relatively safe financial bets for the studios because they come with a built-in fanbase that will watch the movie no matter how bad it is. On top of that there are merchandising and multimedia promotional considerations that can really generate huge profits.

+1. They are either making a comic movie or ruining a classic in a remake. Man, I would hate to be associated with Hollywood.

Default Where in the world is Old Action?

As a lover of action films. I'm getting tired of them. That's all I hear.

Watchmen (2008) this. Wolverine (2008) that. Avengers (2011) here. Thor (2010) there. Iron Man 2 (2010)? Batman 3 (2011)!!!!

Where has all the gunplay gone?

Has comic films replaced it?

I agree, I wish more action films like Shoot Em Up would come out.

That was such a great movie.

Or films like Commando

But I am very excited for Watchmen, most anticipated movie of the year so far.

I'm lovin' it! I'm estatic to see them actually taking most of these comics seriously and not making them dumb like they used to. Just look at Dark Knight and Iron Man. Both were awesome.

Did you see Taken? (2009)?

There are tons of these gunplay movies each year. Some really good. Some not so much.

Its the hot thing right now, eventually it will run its course as do all the different genres in Hollywood whether its the slasher, epic, western, or period movies.

9 is my most anticipated. The short was so good. It could be an epic.

i for one get very angry when they take a great movie or tv.serie of the past that was done seriously and then they turn it into a comedy like... let's say:

i spy-- great tv serie but stupid movie remake (eddie murphy)
the duke of hazzard-- great tv serie but stupid movie remake (jessica simpson)
the nutty professor (jerry lewis) great movie but stupid movie remake (eddie murphy)

unfornately there are tons of those kind of remake and most of them stink but that's hollywood for you i guess.

They are not running out of material -- they are simply risk-adverse and therefore will much more likely bet on either already-existing material (i.e. comic books, for example) or really streamlined high-concept ideas.

... Why don't you like dramas? I mean, in any movie of any genre, what good would it be without any conflict? Drama is more or less the basis of storytelling and the narrative.

would you roll the dice on a new movie/concept(lol I wouldnt)? Or take something like the dark knight or spider-man and double, triple, quadruple the money it took you to make the thing.

look what scary movie spawned all the crazy movies that have come off that for studio's trying to make the quick buck.

you go with what works.
