To me, it's all one very long awesome movie, but if I had to pick it would be ROTK.

Then Two Towers

Then maybe Return of the King if I'm forced to pick a third.

+1...all three are incredibly awesome. Normally when you read a book first and then see the movie, you are let down because you had mental images that the movie failed to live up to. With LOTR, from the set pieces to the casting to just about everything, it was like it sprang right from the book.

I know I am going to get a lot of s**t for this but I have tried watching this trilogy on two occasions and did not care for any of them at all. My wife loves them all and thinks I am crazy. I will try and give them another go once they are on blu.

I'm curious, did you read the books? It seems at times as if those who have read the books love 'em all, whereas those that have not don't get what all the fuss is about...

Default Randall 2 Said It Best

If you've seen Clerks 2, there's a pretty accurate summary of the LOTR series.

But I say the 2nd once was the best because it's the only one that wasn't way too long. It's also the only one with a good starting point and a stopping point.

I liked them all and try to see them as a single movie divided in three parts...

If I had to choose, the arrival of Theoden at the Pelennor fields is a great moment of the trilogy in my opinion, I would go for ROTK
