I can now vouch that Dark City may be the best Sci-Fi movie since Blade Runner (though the matrix is hard to topple, but it's more "mainstream").
Dark City rocks. Finished watching the Theatrical and Director's cut. I think they are both good (the difference isn't as great as Blade Runner), but I prefer the Director's cut with the added scenery and such. Plus the Blu transfer is awesome. "Mr. Quick is no more" "TURN IT ON TURN IT ON" |

Poor, poor Mr. Quick...
I particularly like the fact that the director's cut includes Connelly's bad singing [Show spoiler] Glad you liked it... it's a fav of MINE... Whenever I mention the movie, many people have said "Huh?" They've never heard of it. Interesting side note (since you mentioned the Matrix) some of the rooftop set pieces from Dark City were used in the opening Trinity escape sequence from The Matrix (1st one) Cheers, Doc. PS, the transfer is SO good, you can see Connelly's mustache in a few scenes... an unfortunate side effect of 1080p Last edited by doctorsteve; 02-04-2009 at 11:50 PM. |

She is really a man. One of those hairy chicks you know. However, I thought her voice suited the movie very very well. Very jazz style feel to it. Maybe I need to watch the director's cut again for the added vocal track. |

![]() The theatrical release had a dubbed vocal track, the directors cut vocal track is very flat with poor tone and out of tune - but again... on purpose! The theatrical cut has a better voice, but is so obviously not Jennifer's it was a glaring discombobulation that always annoyed me... |

[QUOTE=doctorsteve;1591395]Um, definitely not a man... If so, then I'm gonna start switch hitting... just remember - not all body hair's bad... reminds us we're all dirty little animals that just want to eat, sleep, and .....? Besides - she IS a sexy beast!

She is just one of those hairy females. Maybe she fixed herself (hopefully on a regular basis). I could almost see some black arm hairs with that picture, but I am not sure. Can't really go based on photo-shoots online. Try to find her on the streets or something and get a glimpse of how hairy she is for us. |

Would you guys believe I just saw this for the first time 4 weeks ago? It was one of the first movies I ever watched on blu-ray. I was blown away. It was a netflix blu rental, then I bought it. Outstanding film.

Weird but true story for you all. First time I saw this, it was out in UK cinemas on its official release - so this was the late 90s. At the time, where I lived and worked, there was no multiplex, but surrounding towns all had small one or two-screener cinemas, so either I took the train, or persuaded a friend with a car to give me a lift. My colleague in the English department, Andy, who was also a hard SF nut, agreed to go see Dark City with me - I was interested because it was the director of The Crow, he was interested because of the trailer. He drove us up to Croydon, and we got stuck in traffic for ages. When we finally get to the cinema, the screening had already started, but it was so quiet the cashier still sold us tickets, and we went in. We sat down, and on the screen, the light was swinging above the bath tub, and off it went. We loved the film to bits, walked out talking about it, but for ages afterwards could never understand why other people we talked to didn't like it that much, calling it predictable....
Those of you who have seen both the theatrical and director's cut will know exactly what happened to us - we had missed that insane opening voiceover that gives away the entire story! I had no idea about this until I finally got it on VHS, sat down to watch it, and was utterly horrified by the opening! From then on, whenever I had friends round to watch it, I insisted on starting the film at the end of the opening credits; I'd then show them that at the end and ask them what they thought. Not ONE person ever thought that opening narration was a good idea. |

I hate ALL of Sutherland's delivery. Like the... fat kid... with the... breathing... problem... on the... "Malcolm... in the... middle"... show...

I agree... seeing it without the voiceover is just fine, but would help less (pardon the pun) "tuned"-in folks. But I'm glad it's gone from the directors cut.
on the other side of the coin... Many people hate the Harrison Ford VO in Blade Runner (Including Harrison), but I always liked it, and I'm glad to be able to see the theatrical version on Blu. |
