Default Help me with Receiver purchase

Ok im new to surround sound

I dont want to buy a set up thats all bundled together i think buying seperate is a good idea.

I went thinking the best choice was a onkyo...i was thinking about getting the 606 which is kinda out of my price range but i dont really know what to go for and dont want to get something that im not going to be happy with due to not spending a little more.

well the onkyo 606 was sold out. They had a yamaha Yamaha RX-V463BL
but i dunno

I dont want to just buy anything..or something too cheap and have it forever because my tv is really nice..spent 3000 for it and the stand was 3 or 4 hundred also.

ps3 mgs4 bundle was 500

so i wanna get something good...thats easy to set up with the ps3, i also have a comcast digital hd/dvr set up.

well any help is appreciated.....Im also looking for speakers...polk audio was what i was looking at..

my budget is around 6 or 7 hundred for everything give or take.

Or i can just buy little by little...But nothing too crazy money wise.

THANKS for all the help!!!

The Denon line of amps are really nice and with your price point the best receivers for the money in my opinion. The 1909 will run you about $600 and the 2309 about $800. If you check the reviews and post on this site you will find a lot of happy Denon owners. If Imo not mistaken i think they won best receiver in this price range.

My take is you want receiver and speakers for your 6-7 hundred. A good receiver for a decent price would be the yamaha rx-v663. I paid under 400 for mine actually like 359 shipped from 6save.com. that would leave you a few hunderd for speakers.

I hear that polk makes a good one at a good price.

Good luck

Cool

In that price range, since you don't want a HTIB, I would suggest doing a solid 2.0 system. I'm assuming that for $3000, your TV has enough HDMI inputs that you don't need the receiver to handle switching for you.

An example would be the Infinity Primus P362 speakers with an Onkyo TX8555, or even the Denon DRA-397. The Denon route might put you over by $100.00 or so, but if you need a better tuner (for weak FM signals), it would be worth it. A lot of people seem to like Denons better too.

This will give you plenty of power, as well as, efficient, near "full range" speakers. Infinity is known for its clean midrange & smooth treble. Plus it is rated down to 38hz, which means you won't miss having a sub too much.

When you are ready to upgrade to 5.1, you can move this system to the bedroom, build upon it or sell it & start fresh. In the meantime you will be able to enjoy a much nicer system than any HTIB that I know of.

I just came across this:

http://www.accessories4less.com/make...00-watt/1.html

If you are still in the market, this is not the typical bundled system. For the price the speakers are almost free. So, if you want to upgrade in a few years, no big loss.
