I plugged my son's in yesterday and it recognized it was an iPod, but didn't see any music on it. But, I can charge it, and that's what I was really trying to do.

Did you try hitting triangle and selecting "Display All"? I know it used to be possible to get at the music stored on a iPod that way, the only problem was the folder (and possibly file) names really didn't make any sense. I've also heard that newer iPods won't allow you to do that any more.

Naah, didn't try all that, was more charging it, saw it was showing up on the XMB, so opened it see how easy it was. Didn't feel like messing around with it as I had games to play instead.

I have an ipod touch and read online that it wasn't possible. This was a couple months ago when it first came out though.

PS3 will only play songs that do not have DRM. Trust me, I've tried everything possible to transfer my iTunes library over. I even decided to buy 100 CDs and transfer the songs over by using the option Burn CD.

Now that they no longer sell songs with DRM, its made it a ton easier. If you haven't errr 'upgraded' your songs yet, they will still have DRM on them.

Also your PS3 will not recognize your iPod.

I don't know about the new iPods but you can do that with the older ones. You press then Display All, but the file names are encrypted per iTunes.

Oh, now that is interesting. Well as you may know, iTunes just released 'iTunes+' which now lets you 'buy back' your songs/videos to remove the encryption (DRM). Also all the songs you now purchase do not have DRM.

Well the names of the files are encrypted but not the file itself. So you will get A4397GFJL and it could be Michael Jackson's Thriller. Also note that these "encrypted" files are encrypted because they were ripped by iTunes - regardless whether if its AAC or MP3 - but if you had ripped them by another program and you use iTunes to store them on your iPod, the file shows the correct names.

But as far as encrypted AAC files bought from iTunes store, I never did that so I don't know. Interesting to know about iTunes+ and the option to "buy" back. Wonder if they do a lump-sum fee.

iTunes tracks with DRM were 128Kbps AAC. DRM-free iTunes Plus tracks are 256Kbps.

On the front page of the iTunes store there should be a quick links section on the right, last option upgrade to iTunes Plus with an orange number of available tracks for the upgrade.

thats because he hasn't upgraded his songs to the itunes + so the ps3 won't find the songs to play.

so if you downloaded songs off itunes from like 2+ months ago then it won't find it.

they finally switched to protection free music aka Itunes+
