Default Which player

Quick intro Hello name is Brian and new here.

I'm going to be buying my first blu ray player in about a couple weeks.
I've been looking at Sony's 350 and 550 player.
I searched around here and found some info but not clear to make a choice.

My main question is the 550 any better in PQ than the 350 and if so worth the extra $100. I read here from another member stating that both players use the same video processor also I looked on best buy and checked specs and each player has a differnt chipset also.

I'm not to concerned to much on audio cause I dont have a sound system.
But I am using a Sony tv.

So what are your thoughts?

Video-wise, the 350 and the 550 are the same player. The benefit of the 550 is in the area of audio outputs. So if you aren't concerned about audio, then the 350 would be just fine for you. And later, when you decide to get into the audio, to get the full benefit of blu-ray, just find a receiver with built-in decoders and you're fine.

Thats what I thought and came up with as I was reading other topics on that.

No I haven't. I don't play games much and when I do I prefer the 360 for gaming. Like the games more for 360.

Nothing against the PS3 I like it and love it. The thing that bugs me about it is and may be a petty issue is the PS3 is kind of on the bulky side to me.

The Sony BDP s-550 has the Multi-analogues out and "internal" decoding for DTS-MA. however, the 350 will do well, all you need is a bitstream TrueHD/DTS-MA for decoding the amp.

if I were you I'd go with the 350, that way you can have an extra $100 to put towards some good movies to play on it.

I have been considering getting a second BD player and was also thinking of getting the 550 (Just an FYI, it's about $5 cheaper then the 350 on Amazon), but was wondering how it compares to the PS3. I already own a PS3 and it works perfectly, and from other people I've heard from, most stand alone players aren't as good. So should I go for the 550 or would the PS3 be a more reliable choice?

The S350 is a very solid and excellent player. I would grab it in a heartbeat.

Those Sony models are good. But the Denon 2500btci is a beast. Picture quality is out of this world. No BD live though. I do not need to get on line to discuss a movie with others while I am watching a movie. And what ever extras that BD live does. To me its a little nerdy. But if just watching an excellent blue Ray You cant beat a Denon.
