Default Sony Receiver STR- D6720

I was wondering if the Sony - 735 W 7.1 -ch. A/V home theater receiver model STR - D6720 was any good. Not experienced with theater stuff. Also if $183.49 plus tax is a good price for it.

For the price, there aren't a whole lot that will process LPCM. It isn't gonna be confused with the Sony STR-DG920 or and Onkyo 606, but if you are looking specifically for a budget receiver, it is good. I used to have the STR-DG710, but after a year I went to the STR-DG920, which is definetly a better reciever. If you could stretch your budget, then I would say look for a refurbished Marantz 5002 @ $299 on accessories4less.com. Otherwise if you are sticking to that budget, I can say that my 710 was a good reciever when I was using it.

Well I have $100 worth of best buy certificates, I don't know much on receivers or home audio. Not sure but it does do the video input and audio output right?

Blue350z,

It might be good to mention that the STR-DG720 itself will not decode Dolby Digital TrueHD or DTS HD-Master Audio. To take advantage of these two lossless compression codecs, the Blu-ray player attached to it must be able to decode Dolby Digital TrueHD and DTS HD-Master Audio and then send the audio as LPCM to the STR-DG720 via HDMI.

For decoding of Dolby Digital TrueHD and DTS HD-Master audio in a Sony receiver, consider going up to the STR-DG820 for about $100 more (along with a few other added features). If you are able to decode these two codecs in your Blu-ray player and send as LPCM over HDMI, then the 720 will suffice.

With your BB certificate, you could go for this Sony if you need to decode dts MA or DD TrueHD because your player doesn't.

Whatever you do DO NOT use that $100 on some overpriced HDMI Cable. There are lots of places on line where you can pick them up for under $5, sometimes less and including shipping.

Duh!!!! What do you think am I !?!? Haha I know I can get HDMI cables for $4 after shipping.

I would get something at. Circuit City but it is too much of a risk since something might go wrong with it.
