Default Polk Monitor 50 - $150?

I've been eye-ing these speakers for a while now for my L and R and today they're $99 at Amazon with $50 shipping, which makes it $300 total. Are these speakers worth it? I might just pull the trigger as usually they're $140 and this is like getting free shipping. With these, I also want to get the PSW10 and the CS2. Only thing I don't have yet is the receiver. But my system is so bad now. My HTiB's center speaker makes this loud sound every time the audio hits a certain note. It's painful and distracting.

Shipping to Alaska is $200+.

Hate it when people charge a bunch to ship up here.

I got a pair from Polk Direct (eBay store) for $132 plus $50 shipping plus tax a while back. Came to less than $200 for the pair.

James,

Sounds like you are getting a good deal at $300 for the pair, shipped. That stinks that Newegg can't ship free to AK. The T90e speakers are just a little more robust than the Monitor 50s (I recently bought a pair of T90e speakers). But whatever way you go, you will hear an impressive improvement in your sound over your current speakers.

Wow, you're very close to me. I live in Delta. I'm actually driving to Fairbanks later on today, do you know of any places to get speakers?

Yup, I just hate spending the $130-something for shipping when it would be free if I didn't live up here. But, hey, everything in Alaska is more expensive.

Well, the TSi300's ship for free, but they are a bit more expensive. How do these compare to the Monitor 50's? And they go with the CS20.

They will go with the CS20 and are basically the replacement Monitor 50's, which only really means a cosmetic update. That's all.

Weren't these going for $79.99 with free shipping a couple of days ago from newegg? I almost pull the trigger but decide not to since I'm quite content with my current small speaker setup. I'll probably get it when it is $50 each again.

Got the same deal a couple weeks ago. Use the "live cash-back", to save another 5 bucks.

Do you know if the Euro version of the Monitor 60's are timbre matched with the Monitor 50's?

I think he was being sarcastic because it wasn't much of a deal?

The entire Monitor line is timbre-matched to work with the CS1 or CS2 centers. I'm not sure what you're asking as far as 60's matching 50's... for what? Using them as surrounds? It's fine.

It's a veneer or vinyl, so I doubt you'd have much luck with paint at all. Someone here used vinyl on top of it to get good results.
