Default Inglorious Basterds trailer

Who saw the trailer for Quentin Tarantino's Inglorious Basterds attached to Friday the 13th this weekend? I must say, as usual for his films, I won't be able to sit still until this thing releases in August. What do you guys think? First impressions from the trailer?

Interesting role for B.J. Novak. Looks alright though.

I think that caught my attention more than anything. He looked so out of place.

Finally got to hear the German scalp line. I love it. Can't wait for this to come out. I may even lift my ban on going to the theater for this one.

Of course, I'll wait to see the actual film before passing judgement, but the trailer didn't do it for me. Just didn't buy the casting and the dialog. *shrug*

To me it looks like a video game trailer. I keep thinking Doom meets Blood Rayne meets call of Duty. Tarantino has not overly impressed me since Pulp Fiction. The Kill Bills were fun not memorable, Death proof was boring, and Jackie Brown was terrible.

What?!? We obviously have different opinions in movies.

As far as the trailer goes, it looks amazing, but it's kinda deceiving considering there's only like 2 seconds of Shosanna shown and she's more a part of the movie than the Basterds.

What did you not like about the casting? I ask because my first impression of the line of soldiers was that it didn't look like the collection of bad-asses I was expecting. Is that how you were leaning?

I thought it was awesome! Reminded me much of this:

Patton

And as for rebfandan's point... I think the casting looks great... I don't want huge stars in every role in a movie... I want people who looked normal... not every soldier was Rambo or Captain America... these were normal people.

Don't buy Brad Pitt in that role...yet. And yeah, I got the Patton vibe, that's one of the most famous opening scenes in film history. Even people who haven't seen Patton know that speech. However, that's the problem for me. Brad Pitt's spiel seemed like an obvious tip of the hat, its just not as good.

No biggie, it's just a trailer. Can't judge a performance or a movie on 30 seconds. Had the same problem with Valkrie, yet everyone I know who has seen it says Cruise is great.

We'll see.

I'm exactly in line with your opinion. That was my initial reaction and it got me to thinking that an unassuming looking soldier can be more frightening when that killer instinct comes out. I think it's gonna be great!
