I pre-ordered this from Amazon.co.uk since it is one of my favorite films of the last few years. It has already shipped, but I was wondering...
does anyone know if this is region locked, or what the specs are... 1080i/1080p and/or framerate? DTS-MA audio is mentioned on the front, but I don't know if it is 2.0/5.1 or something different. Icon is releasing this, and their titles are hit and miss when it comes to region locks and framerates... so it'll be interesting to see. Anyone in the UK got this yet? |

Please update when you get it. I'm really hoping it'll play in a USA PS3 or Region A blu-ray player such as the Panasonic BD-35 or Sony 350.

Here's confirmation that Once is Region Free from the editor of www.blurayregioncodes.com
"Re: Once UK Blu-ray Hi, Just received confirmation that it is region free. Might take a day or two before I add it to the site. As I'm sick with the flu right now, so better stay off computer as much as possible ![]() Br, Kalle" So it looks like it's region free...though we still don't know what the framerate the feature is. (If it's 25 or 50 frames, it may not be compatible with most US players or the PS3...so I'm crossing my fingers. I'm hoping to get it in the next 2-3 days from amazon.co.uk, but if someone else gets it first, please let me know! |

Sorry to say guys, but this title is Region B "LOCKED." At least to the best of my knowledge it is- I have a US PS3 and it will NOT play. I have tried several different things (i.e. waiting for previews to pass, hitting "next" several times) and nothing works. I get no picture and no sound on my player. If somebody else is able to get it to work on a US PS3 I would love to hear how. Thanks!

And the feature wont start? Or you couldn't even get the menu? Sounds like the disc may be region ABC but the menu and/or main feature are encoded as 1080i50. |

Nope I get absolutely nothing. No menu, no sound, nothing. Not sure what I'm doing wrong if its REGION ABC?? I also purchased Son of Rambow and was told that it was in fact Region abc but the menu's were PAL so you had to "wait." But I wasn't able to get anything with that disc either. So unless I'm doing something wrong it will NOT play on a US PS3

That sucks! Is there any USA player that will play titles in 1080i/50fps?
I just assumed that the region coding would be the problem... not the frame rate! Or maybe, I can stick it in a BD-ROM drive and re-encode it. |

Mine plays perfectly in my 40GB USA PS3...no problems at all... Menus load up, previews play...film works just fine. I'm happy for me, but hope you get yours working! (It may be because I have my PS3 set to 1080i format, since my TV only accepts 1080i?) The film is an AVC encode. The disc is a BD-25. Obviously this is a region ABC disc. I don't have a BD-Rom drive, so I don't know if it is 1080p or 1080i. Josh Zyber over at High def digest says that the film was filmed with a 1080i Sony camera, so either Icon de-interlaced it...or it is still in 1080i. The packaging is mislabeled on the back... it is not in Dolby Digital 5.1 or DTS. There are 3 tracks...2 commentary tracks And the main feature is in 2.0 Stereo Surround DTS-MA around 1.5-2.5 mbps. Ironically, the commentary tracks are also in 2.0 Stereo DTS-MA! So even though I'm dissapointed about the lack of a 5.1 track, I'm so happy it plays in HD!!!! I was just about to post that I had received mine today, so you have covered the specs issue for me. Very disappointed that there isnt a 5.1 track but the picture looked good!

Thought the PQ was very good for an independent film made with a 1080i Sony Camera...especially during daylight scenes. The high bit-rate AVC encode really helps it shine. DTS-MA 2.0 Stereo Surround also gets the job done with clarity. A very good stereo surround mix to be sure, and 2.0 is the original sound mix. (Though I'm sure they could have redone a 5.1 mix...I'm sure the original elements are around somewhere.)
