Default Format war benefited high-def rollout

“Universal’s Mandel noted that through 2007, both formats will make use of their respective promotional groups in hyping Blu-ray and HD DVD products. Although each side carries a different message, the combined effect will be louder than if just one of the groups existed.”

This is also a negative message that the format war is still going strong. In the long run the BLU-RAY format is better for the consumer unless every manufactory decides to make combo players so that Universal Studios can sale more HD-DVD discs. Universal Studios is keeping the format war alive by remaining exclusive to the HD-DVD format.

I still fail to see how the format war helps the consumer. People are like, "Look at the price drops!" I say, "Player prices fell faster when dvd was introduced without competition."

People are like, "Look at the increasing features!" I say, "Look at the poor quality hd-dvd players and discs, and look at the lack of blu-ray BD-J & audio decoding."

And the trump of everything, most consumers are left confused and irritable, instead of enthusiastic about new technologies.

Unfortunately, Microsoft has too much invested, and too big a bankroll to just let blu-ray win & end the consumer madness.
