What movies have you gotten after you've rented them through an online service like Blockbuster by mail or Netflix?
I ended up purchasing 'She's out of my League' thanks to Blockbuster by Mail...at least I think it was that. |

I have a huge Netflix queue. If I really like something, I won't watch the extras, and I'll put it on my personal wishlist. I do the research, watch some eBay auctions or B&M sales and then after I eventually buy, then I'll watch the extras!

I rented ACROSS THE UNIVERSE by Netflix, and got half way through the film, turned it off and drove to best buy and BOUGHT the film. I figured I dont care if the second half sucks, this FIRST half is WORTH the purchase.
One of my favorite films. |

I watched part one of Mesrine on NF went out and bought it the next day. I bought part 2 of Mesrine on BD day 1 even though it was available instant streaming. I have also bought a lot of other Foreign films after watching them on NF as well.
BD's > Netflix Neflix > owning Bad BD's |

Netflix is a blessing and a curse, cause I see movies I love, and then I want to own them forever.
Movies I really wanted and were on sale: (500) Days of Summer (I had to wait forever for this one) How to Train Your Dragon Easy A Movies I got cuz that were on sale and were kind of good: Legend of the Guardians Megamind No Strings Attached Movies I still want, but am waiting to go on sale: Black Swan The King's Speech |

Kingdom of Heaven was the one netflix rental i really had to have after watching, even knowing that it didn't have any supplements, that's how much i liked it.
the other two titles that i thought were worthy enough to own after renting was 3:10 to Yuma, and The Curious Case of Benjamin Buttons |

Im a renter, not a blind buyer so here are a few I bought after renting:
The Illusionist Mike Clayton There Will be Blood The Uninvited From Hell Red Cliff(long version) There are more too! With renting being so easy and hassle-free, I cant fathom why people blind buy anything. No reason for it. |

In fact, I blind buy pretty frequently basing some decisions on reviews I read in this forum however, to answer the question posed in this thread, I've purchased: The Town Inception Before the Devil Knows You're Dead And I'm hoping I can add the Lincoln Lawyer to my list after that is released Last edited by Valore; 06-30-2011 at 12:42 PM. |

Somewhat off topic, but it annoys me when a movie is only available for rent. After I streamed Map of the Sounds of Tokyo on Netflix in HD, I wanted to buy a copy, but it is only available on DVD. There is a movie from the same director called Elegy (with Penelope Cruz) that IS available on Blu-ray, but the only way you can get it is to rent the BD from Netflix (it's a Netflix exclusive). I also watched the Korean film The Chaser on Netflix in HD, but if you want the Blu-ray, prepare to import it.

I'm not signed up with Netflix or Blockbuster Express, but I do borrow films from my local library on DVD or Blu-ray (very limited selection) in anticipation of buying a title. I've discovered some great films this way, and have ended up buying the following Blu-rays after a library rental:
Enchanted Ponyo Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind The Incredibles Cars Wallace & Gromit: The Complete Collection Toy Story 3 Meet the Robinsons Chicken Little All Dogs Go to Heaven |

I blind buy pretty regularly, but I do use Netflix, mostly for TV show streaming, though.
On occasion, I'll watch a movie on Netflix if I'm not convinced that I'll like it, or if it's an independent film that is pricey to buy on Blu-Ray. Then, once the price comes down, I'll pick it up sometime later. |
