Default Buy Blu Audio!!! : The Unofficial Release, News, Discussion Thread

Releases Listed Below
It will take a concerted effort to show the music industry that there is a sustainable market for 'Hi-Definition' sound. Pioneers like Tom Petty, Trent Reznor, and Neil Young are some of the first modern artists to be involved in releasing their music on the Blu-ray Audio format. If you are a fan of what Blu-ray has done for video releases, I encourage you to check out what these artists (and certainly others to come) have done to advance the cause of high-quality audio. The clarity, the boom, the quiet, that "you-are-there" experience - better than ever, on Blu-Audio. Even if you are not specifically a fan of the artists, give them a try - the Blu experience may open your ears to new music and expand your horizons, while giving you some serious bang for your buck.

Support Blu-Audio now, and pave the way for a lifetime of amazing sound experiences!!! Cheers, Doc

I think money may be better spent on speakers and HW to get a better sound from CD's to be honest. But for those with the HW to give that "ultimate" sound I am not against, mind

Don't forget "NIN: Ghosts I-V"

Also, Pure Audio is probably the leading producer of Blu-ray Audio, though its mostly classical stuff. Visit their website and sign up for the news letter. They have a list of products available now as well:

I just hope that BD-A will be region-free with every release....just like the other music formats that came before it.

You mention in the first post about the Tom Petty "Damn the Torpedoes" release. Is it this release, that you're talking about? Or is it another release? I have seen the one I am talking about, but felt it was an interview piece. If it's the album, I'll get it right away. Just want to make sure I get the right thing.

Thanks. I'm interested in the music disc. But from what I heard of the interviews, it's only parts of the music, not full songs. I hope this gets released soon.

well, in the link i provided there is a link for an oversease site that i almost pre-ordered from. the amount came out to be about $32. im gonna hold off an see if it gets announced in the states. if not, im gonna import it. being a blu ray music disc, it shouldnt be region locked. my MOJO doesnt have any region coding on it.

the classic albums series only have partial songs.

Wasn't going to include it, since it was a limited edition, not currently available at Amazon, and there's no record of it here at BR.C. Besides, is the Blu disc a Blu-ray Disc-Audio release, or is it a Blu video disc with hi-def audio???

That Blu-ray Doctor Steve is linking to is the re-mastered high resolution stereo and 5.1 version on Blu-ray.

The other one you're thinking of is the "classic album" series from Eagle Rock which does not contain ANY album tracks as individual tracks.

Tom plans to do Blu-ray Audio releases for all the albums, supporting Damn The Torpedoes will ensure we get to see Wallflowers, Full Moon Fever, Into The Great Wide Open, Southern Accents, etc., all remastered to high resolution stereo and surround with no dynamic range compression - that's a beautiful thing.

I respectfully disagree, there isn't much that can be done with the majority of CD's coming out these days, compressed, clipped, brickwalled and limited to beyond listenable. Thankfully I've found that usually the vinyl receives separate mastering usually from a 24-bit source, they don't need to compress the snot out of it because the market is different, they know they're only going to move around 10,000 copies. Dave Matthews Band and Pearl Jam's newest albums for example have both moved a little over 12,000 copies on vinyl. The difference in dynamics between the CD of Big Whiskey and the Groogrux King and the album is amazing, heck even Alice in Chains new album sounds so much more alive on vinyl.

My hope is that thanks to the pioneers leading the way, music will return to dynamics. We're hearing it more and more from the mastering guys and the old dogs like Tom, Neil, Trent, Bob, etc. Trent even manages to deliver downloadable .mp3 samples that put most major CD releases to shame in terms of mastering.

Agreed - it's like watching a DVD on a huge hi-def set vs. watching a Blu on a 27" tube TV. I could see an increase in quality with the Blu on an 'old' TV, but the DVD on a new set looks horrible (unless upconverted, but still...)

To use a paraphrase: "It's the SOURCE, silly!!!"

Aja on SACD truly bowled me over. I thought I really knew that album backwards and forwards, but the SACD delivered SO much more. Playing the CD on a new sound system might help a bit - simply because of the addition of a Sub, or getting the music out and away from rinky-dink headphones, but the true jump is with a better source - and Blu outshines CD in every way.

Shouldn't the release of RUSH's 2112/Moving Pictures also be in the "pre-order" section

No, because those are not albums in high resolution, they are "making of" documentaries. In case you're wondering Damn The Torpedoes being discussed here is not the classic album series version you can currently buy in stores, but the high resolution Blu-ray AUDIO disc of the album which will feature the entire album in high resolution stereo and multi-channel.

The other titles in that list are all music titles being released on Blu-ray.
