USA Cataloging The Collection

Greetings All !!! New Member here...

I have been reading these forums for a while and just decided to join because I enjoy reading the reviews of currently released movies and forum members comments on all aspects of Blu-Rays and HT equipment!

I have read and posted to another thread here about cataloging ones collection, as of now I have over 1200 DVDs and over a 100 Blu-Rays. I just purchased moviecollector Pro(..this video hooked me) with the opticon 2001 pocket barcode scanner and I can't wait to get started on my database. How ever, I just stumbled upon this website and was wondering if the people that use excel or other applications use a site like that to enter in their info(..copy/paste) into what ever method they are using? I got one of my oldest DVD movies(..Twilight Zone #1) and typed in the UPC and it had all the info about the disk minus the actors.

The opticon scanner is cool, but for that price, no thanks. It does seem very nice though so I hope you enjoy it.

Moviecollector is the sh!t man. I love it to death, haven't found another program that's as efficient and quick with as many features.

Thanks, I hope it works like the video led me to believe it would. It is pricey though!

USA Opticon Scanner

Got it today !!!

2.5 hours to charge, test and download and then I will be getting busy cataloging the collection every night till it is done!

Now that I have held that scanner, it is nice and has a good quality feel to it !

Being a computer science guy, I ended up making my own program to store the movie database. Only disadvantage is that it's all entered manually.

I use DVD Profiler. It seems to have more features than Movie Collector, or at least different ones that are more interesting to me.

Before coming here, I used dvdaf, but that site sucks, and has always sucked.

Before that, I used a site called DVDSpot, which was actually pretty great until they shut it down.

I even used IMDB's "My Movies" feature briefly, but that kind of sucks as well.

I have over 4,000 DVDs and almost 400 Blu-rays and I have the two lists all built into two spreadsheets.

I started listing my DVDs on a Works spreadsheet when I started collecting in 1997, and had Excel 2007 by the time I started collecting Blu-ray's.

I use DVD Profiler on my PC and DVDpedia on my Mac. DVDpedia's nice in that it uses the built-in iSight camera of my iMac to scan the barcode of the DVD/BD. Makes it very easy to add titles to the database without buying a barcode reader.

However, DVD Profiler has it beat for options and print customizations. I like that DVD Profiler stores the front and back covers, where DVDpedia only stores the front cover. DVD Profiler also has an option to post your collection on its web service for free.

Long ago, I had just made my own excel spreadsheet to keep track of it all, then I was introduced to DVD Profiler, and I really love it, though I still have trouble finding how to do certain things. I do however wish I had a barcode scanner to speed things up. How cheap can I get just a simple, basic one?
(and I don't have an iPhone, so that option is out)

I built a text file with my UPC's and uploaded it to DVDCount. Unfortunately, 31 of my DVD's aren't found

But I did get 559 loaded, so that's not too bad.

No one here uses MyMovies3? It's almost completely free and you can enter by typing the title, putting the disk in the drive, typing in the UPC Code, or UPC scanner. I suggest you give it a look.

I use DVD Profiler, DVD Aficionado, and BD Stats, which can all be found in my signature. I like all three because they are useful for different functions.

I gave it a look, and it looks like a total scam.

In order to get all the options that most other cataloguing software provides, you'll end up paying out the nose.

It's like sure, the basic barebones version is "free", but as soon as you want any options, you have to start paying.

No thanks.

I use to use DVDSpot and LOVED it till they shut it down. I was so upset. I HATED DVDAvid whatever, that stunk to me.

I now use DVDProfiler and while the ONLINE page isn't that attractive, my home version is BEAUTIFUL and easy to use and has more information than one collector really needs, which is perfect for me.

I have over 1000 titles in my collection and you can see it in my signature.
