Of all the theatrically released titles in your collection (DVD/HD-DVD/Blu-ray), how many have yet to be released on Blu-ray?
I have approximately 754 theatrically released titles. Of those, 45 have yet to be released on Blu-ray. (I'm including titles that have only had extended or altered versions from the theatrical release.) So I have 709 titles on either Blu-ray (most) or HD-DVD (very few). The remaining 45, I would love to upgrade also, but who knows when they will be released. My most wanted are in bold. The Abyss Angels In the Outfield Angels With Dirty Faces The Bad News Bears (1976) Breakdown Can't Buy Me Love The Courtship of Eddie's Father Down With Love Dragonslayer Dumb & Dumber (Theatrical Cut) Eight Legged Freaks Fools Rush In Son of Frankenstein The Ghost of Frankenstein Frankenstein Meets the Wolf Man House of Frankenstein House of Dracula Ghost World House Imagine: John Lennon Just One of the Guys The Longest Yard (1974) Matchstick Men Mighty Joe Young (1998) Multiplicity Eddie Murphy: Raw Mystery, Alaska Not Another Teen Movie October Sky Over the Hedge The Parent Trap (1998) Pink Floyd: The Wall Poolhall Junkies Punch Drunk Love Red Eye The Shop Around the Corner Stakeout Star Wars (Original) The Empire Strikes Back (Original) Return of The Jedi (Original) Stripes (Theatrical Cut) Summer School True Lies Wedding Singer (Theatrical Cut) The Whole Nine Yards Last edited by DanFan; 06-28-2015 at 10:17 AM. |

I have a few which I'm in the process of upgrading to Blu but so many are not even available...
Between the Film Noir, Crime and Westerns genres, all of which I love are not available on Blu-ray to the DVD sets which may never be on Blu-ray. Warners more than any other studio kills me since they only seem to release sets of stars like Bogart on Blu-ray which are already available individually on Blu-ray. Even when they issue a set, like the Golden Year 1939 set or the Musical 4 pack, they add one or two movies which have long been available individually... I recently bought the Universal Monster set on DVD since it was obvious to me that Universal was never going to release the sequels to Dracula and Frankenstein on Blu.... |

Most of my DVDs are classic-era film noir movies from the 1940s and 1950s that have not yet been given a high definition treatment for Blu-ray.
Of the 228 movies in my DVD collection, all of them are currently unavailable on Blu-ray except for six movies. Out of the Past is available on Blu-ray and I own the Blu-ray, but I'm keeping the DVD, because it is part of the Warner Film Noir Classic Collection: Volume 1 DVD box set. The Big Heat is available on Blu-ray, and I own the Blu-ray, but I'm keeping the DVD, because it a part of the Columbia Pictures Film Noir Classics 1 DVD box set. Ministry of Fear is available on Blu-ray, and I own the Blu-ray, but I'm keeping the DVD, because it is a part of the TCM Dark Crimes: Film Noir Thrillers - Volume 2 DVD box set. Hangmen Also Die is available on Blu-ray, and I own the Blu-ray, but I'm keeping the DVD, because it is a part of the Kino Film Noir: The Dark Side of Hollywood DVD box set. The Americanization of Emily is available on Blu-ray, and I do not yet own the Blu-ray, but I own the DVD as a part of the Warner Controversial Classics Collection DVD box set. Tourist Trap is available on Blu-ray, but I prefer to own the DVD edition, because the sequencing of scenes has been slightly altered (apparently by mistake) for the Blu-ray. I have been "retiring" most of my DVDs as they are released on Blu-ray, except when it will make a hole in a DVD box set to do so or when a Blu-ray is decidedly inferior to a DVD release (as is in the case of Tourist Trap). DVDs in my collection that are scheduled for release on Blu-ray this year... House of Bamboo Pitfall Them! The Beast from 20,000 Fathoms Although I intend to buy the Blu-rays of all of these, I'll be keeping the DVDs of Them! and The Beast from 20,000 Fathoms, since my DVDs are a part of the 4-disc TCM Greatest Classic Films Collection: Sci-Fi Adventures set. There are a ton. I still buy quite a few DVDs just because there are so many incredible, under the radar films that have yet to receive the HD treatment. "McCabe and Mrs Miller" and "After Hours" are two of my all-time favorite films that are still without a blu release. "Bob Roberts" is one of the best political satires of all-time, and I still have the old DVD of that. I'd love to see of some of David Mamet's films on blu-ray, especially "The Spanish Prisoner" and "Spartan". Altman's probably my favorite director and so many of his masterpieces have yet to receive HD releases. "California Split", "McCabe", "Images", etc. I have a bootleg of a 1993 film called "The Music of Chance", which has yet to receive even a R1 DVD release. Great film that I'd love to see on Blu.

John Sayles is one director who is criminally under-represented on blu ray. "Matewan", "Lone Star", "Eight Men Out", etc. Also, as mentioned several posts above, I'd love to see "Barcelona" get a Criterion release. It's by far my favorite film by Whit Stillman.

Easy post. Top 50 out of 120 or so DVD's most wanted to upgrade are listed in my collection as follows. In the case of Cinema Paradiso and The Big Red One, I'm holding out for the extended releases. That or I'm good with the DVDs.
https://www.blu-ray.com/community/co...&categoryid=21 Hard to accept that with the tons of utter cr*p being released weekly some of these have yet to see the light of day. |
