I started a thread in HOT DEALS FORUM about how Amazon was quietly raising prices. This thread was moved to the OTHER FORUM which essentially killed interest in this thread.

I would like to suggest a thread dealing with general shopping issues such as the thread I started. This would be an appropriate place for us to discuss general pricing issues that are technically NOT specific bargains or sales.

DVD Talk has a forum titled "Shopping Discussion" which is exactly what we need!

the thread was moved as it wasn't a hot deal. If you wanna discuss Amazon or its policies, they fit very nicely in the Off topic forum. We try and keep the Hot deals easy to navigate and only have blu-ray specific deals.

I wasn't complaining about it being moved to the OTHER forum.

I was just suggesting that you dedicate a forum to vendor or shopping discussions. My problem is that the OTHER forum is way too general, but a shopping forum would be more focused.

That's not a bad idea actually!

We have guys posting on Blockbuster Video deals all the time, plus BB and FS and a host of others. They are, right now, appropriately listed in the HOT DEALS forum, but an expansion of some sort may not be a bad idea at all.

Perhaps we could have a RETAIL CHANNEL with stickies devoted to each B&M, Online seller, Wholesalers, Distributors, Manufacturer and the like. I'm NOT suggesting to do away with the HOT DEALS forum at all, because many (if not most) love that section.

I think it would be helpfull if we had sticky on let's say : MONOPRICE or BJC or BB or BBV or FS, etc.

Just my $0.02 (which in Canada is actually worth less)

John

I completely agree with you and had been thinking about mentioning this a long time ago. The Off Topic forum is not the best place when someone has a shopping/vendor questions. I noticed a lot of times discussions about shopping/vendor questions clutter up Hot Forum threads. A recent example is the issue w/ the 30% live.com cashback issue on ebay.

I also noticed some newbies who properly post shopping questions on Off Topic forum don't get as many hits and responses when if they would have done a search on the Hot Forums, they would've gotten more information.

And a lot of times people ask some of the same questions all the time like Amazon Prime questions which should get a sticky.

Just my 2 cents!

This is sarcasm, yes? I mean you were joking right? How can anything related to technology or commerce but not specifically Blu-ray related go to the OT forum in the current state that it is in???

I mean right now as I type there are threads on sandwiches, jokes, insomnia, and biking for crying out loud! To put a legitimate concern in OT nowadays is a sure bet to watch it be swallowed up by a wave of (IMO) lighthearted threads.

I do not mean to sound confrontative, nor do I mean to offend any posters who have written any of the examples of OT posts I used (As far as I can tell you have been given permission to do so, and that's that); I would really like to know though what or where members should post non BD realted questions/concerns that are related to technology or the purchase of.

Because, IMO, OT has become entirely too casual to expect what you're asking of us

As the original poster, I'm grateful for any help with this.

Check with DVD Talk. They have a forum called "Store Forum" which is exactly what I think is needed. It would be a place to express general vendor concerns--pro and con--but are not related to specific bargains or sales.

In addition to "Store Forum" they also have a "Hot Deals" for specific sales. This is exactly what we have already. We just need a general "Store Forum" or "Store Discussion" whatever you want to call it.

Thanks again!
