Default HD resolution question...

Hi all,

I just got a ps3 online and some blu ray movies that should be arriving soon. I got a Sony BRAVIA XBR KDL-V40XBR1 40" LCD about a year ago, and at the time I didn't do my research properly, so the lcd only has a resolution of 1366x768. My question is, would the blu ray movies still display properly on that resolution, and if I were to upgrade to a 1080p screen, would I see a big difference in quality/detail? I downloaded some hi-res files online and they still look beautiful on the screen, I just don't know what the difference would be if it was a 1080 screen. Any comments would be appreciated. Thanks!

You won't have a problem using your PS3 at 720p, that is what most Plasmas are and bluray movies looked great on them so I don't see why they wouldn't look great on a 720p LCD.

Whether you will see a difference between 720 and 1080 on a 40 inch screen most likely will depend on how perceptive you are. Personally, I can't see a big enough differnece to justifiy by a new TV to replace one you just bought a year ago.

Just in case: For Blu-ray movies you set the PS3 to 1080i

Then your Bravia will take the 1080i signal that and fit it into your panel's resolution. (You leave 720 selected also, for 720 games)

Results should be similar to your hi res DL files.

Since you asked, a true 1080p in/out display could display about twice as much data so that would mean a 56" at least, in equivalency to what you have now.

Carry on
