Default Samsung 7 series or Sony Z series?

Hey all,

There is a circuit city near me that has a 46" Samsung 7 series and a 46" Sony Z series both for about $1350.. Given that the price is the same.. What would you all recommend.. The Samsung or Sony?

They are both excellent TV's. The only difference I can come up with off the top of my head is that the Sammy screen is a bit glossy, so it can have some minor reflection issues if you have a lot of light in the room. I have the 6 series (basically the same TV, except for a couple of bells and whistles) and the PQ is amazing. I got rid of my Sony W series to get the Sammy 650 because I personally thought the PQ was better on the Samsung. Basically breaks down to whether you are a Sony man or a Sammy man....good luck on your purchase and enjoy which ever one you get!

I enjoy the TV very much. The 605 has always treated me well (except for a lack of pre-outs....bought it when I was a newbie with HT), along with my HR20-700. I absolutely need an upgrade with the speakers, I just haven't figured out a way to convince my wife. Also, with my second child due in 4 days, I think I'm better off waiting.....

Thats a tough cookie right there. both are excellent set and are very comparable in the PQ area. Just comes down to what brand you trust more

Don't get caught up in the marketing hype that compels us to buy the latest, greatest, priciest speakers. Truth is, the basics of reproducing sound in true high-fidelity have been covered for the past forty or fifty years. The better improvements in the past decades have come in efficiency more than fidelity.

Research some speaker models from the last couple of years that have impressed you for whatever reason. Look into some really vintage stuff too. Then log on to Craig's List or other classified sites. You'd be shocked at the savings you can realize.

I used speakers from the early 70's for my left, right, and center. If it sounds good and looks good, use it! You can see my system on the "Vintage Speaker" thread HERE posts 107 & 109.
Samsang, Correct me if I'm wrong, but I think you might have posted in the wrong thread?

Coin flip, and you better hop on it before they're both gone.

You can have the Samsung 7 series 52" for just a little more. That 46" may look big now but wait a couple years, it'll look like it shrank in the wash. If you can, up the oompf a bit (or wait a month or two) and go up one notch. I'm not sorry in the least. BTW got my sammy 52 7 series for right at $2k. Love it. Also love my 2550 sammy blu player. The up-convert is phenomenal. Comparable to HD tv in quality. Very nice.

Does the Sammy have a 10-bit processing and 10-bit display, x.v.Color technology and Deep Color along with 120Hz and 24p True Cinema?

The Z series really matches up with the Samsung 850 because both are slim line models. The 750 and 850 specs are the same. The only difference is the weight. Either of the tvs are great tvs, but if you have a surround sound system I would do the Sammy, but if you don't I would do the Sony.

I'd recommend the Samsung.
Forsberg mentioned the glossy screen above. The screen as such acts to increase contrast. While I keep my room on the dark side, I find no reflection issues with lights on.
Go with the Samsung, you'll be amazed!

Owning a Samsung and a Sony myself I would say go with Samsung just because I think its a better bang for your buck personally but either way I am sure you will be happy!

I like both sets but why can't Sony put a swivel stand on any of their sets? I have 2 stand mounted swivel Samsungs and I actually use the swivel and at first I did not think I would.
