1080i will play at 30 frames per second in the US or 25 frames per second in the UK. Standard 1080p files are encoded at 24 frames per second. You can convert a 1080i file to 1080p or vice a versa, but conversion will be necessary. Content recorded on video is typically recorded in 1080i/30. Content recorded on film will be sourced at 1080p/24. How well a 1080i file is decoded into 1080p is determined by your components in your setup. Poorly converted 1080i signals can introduce other video problems which can compromise video quality.
