Okay, I'm new here, have had my ps3 since just before Christmas, and I have to ask. Why Trophys? I made it thru Dead Space, first game I've finished since the Atari 2600...it's neat when a trophy pops up, but I guess I just don't get the significance. I don't play online with others, so I can't really show off the trophys I have gotten...there is so much I have to learn about the system so far, someone tell me what the big deal is with trophys!

I like the feeling of completing a game to 100%. It's adds a lot of replayability IMO.

Some people are big on competing with their friends as to who can get the most trophies. Bragging rights and all.
There's also an element that... well, it depends on the game. Some games have only boring trophies.. you just get them as you progress through the game normally. So they don't really add any elements to the game play. But some games have very interesting trophies which are things you wouldn't normally achieve just by accident along the way. They challenge you to play the game in a different way. And they can be a lot of fun and show off some of the depth in the game you might not have otherwise noticed. Those kinds of elements add a lot of replay value, and give you options when playing a game. Getting a little bored of grinding along the main storyline? Go look up the trophies and take a side trip for a while. Trophy requirements are often more difficult than just getting through the main game normally. So achieving them does feel good. I sure appreciate the notion in a world where the casual gaming craze has generally sucked out all the challenge out of most games on the shelves anymore. |

+2 It also makes me try and play the game differently than I would normally play. (i.e. Mirror's Edge has a trophy for finishing the game without shooting people) |

Replay value!
I used to talk negative about Trophies and how we didn't need them. Boy was I wrong. I think a great example for this would be Burnout Paradise, I used to own it when it 1st came out, and I got bored of it quick, it was repeative, but once it got that Trophy patch, it became instantly fun. |
