Same movie- different video codec ? - Blu-ray Forum

Hi all,

Are there different codecs for different regions ? The blu-ray i have in mind is Exorcism of Emily Rose
The region B release has mpeg-2 video codec meanwhile the region A has mpeg-4 avc- why is that ?
I guess i have to check harder before buying my favourite movies so that i don't get a simple mpeg-2 transfer.

2006 vs 2008

Sony made better use of technology at the time of the US release. Got a giant BD-50 to fill

As long as you buy a Region A player first

Yes, and i have both region a and b players- just for this purpose

lol. The US release of The Exorcism of Emily Rose is region free. Sony doesn't region lock.
