I was wondering about this myself earlier. I looked around and all I could find was that it is in fact on a Blu-ray disc.

But what are the technical specs? How do they compare to the standalone release of the original classic film?

I've seen the commercial last friday about the 3 disc edition, and was also wondering if the original was blu-ray or standard. Anyway, I'll be picking this up during my lunch break.

I purchased the original, "The Day the Earth Stood Still" a while back on Blu and although it is in black and white the video is literally breathtaking. The detail, shadowing and contrast is so good you will forget that the movie is in black and white. All I can say is the video really is unbelievable. It really helps too when you're an old guy like me, not only remembering the late nights watching this movie on tv, but I can also relate to many of the vintage items filmed. The old cars, and telephones were the era I actually grew up in as a kid, so that makes it kinda neat for me.

$26.99 at Best Buy is worth it to get the GORT doll as well, at least I think so. Not sure why the original is so much more acclaimed than the remake, I thought the remake was a lot better. May just be because I didn't live in the 50s, dunno.

I'm sorry but this is a pretty dumb thing to say. I didn't live in the 50's either but I can appreciate the original a lot more than the remake. I hope you don't take that same approach with classics such as Casablanca, Gone with the Wind, Wizard of Oz and Citizen Kane. I'll take these four movies over any movies made in the last ten years.

Just because it's an older movie doesn't mean it's sucks, in fact there is a reason why the movies I mentioned have stood the test of time. Ten years from now, the original TDTESS will be more remembered than the trash remake.

I did say maybe and I do love movies prior to my decade of birth, I just didn't like the original TDTESS, sorry. Everyone here has different tastes and opinions, just the way it is.

Someone actually liked the remake? Seriously?

And the GORT set is only $26? I saw it at bestbuy today and it was $44 while the movie was only $33

Receipt right here says $28.98 with tax and the GORT figure was $19.99 but $0 with purchase of the DVD or blu-ray.

Watched the remake for the first time just now. Wasn't that bad, and I'm a huge fan of the original and classic sci-fi movies in general.

My BB was out of the Gort figure....

Not worth the blind buy. Better rent than own it.
