personally i would not use anything that attaches to the ps3. if its attached and it fails for whatever reason (doesnt last forever) you may not notice and at that point it will block the natural airflow of the ps3 and may kill it. i would and do use this to pull then push airflow away:

This is awesome! I've only seen instructions on how to build one of these yourself. Time to read the reviews to see how people have used this, thanks!

I've seen people use laptop coolers. Just put the PS3 on top of it and it blows cool air into the bottom and uses one of the USB ports. Which for a 60gb isn't a big deal.

i put one on the rear right of the ps3 and on the right side of the ps3. you can adjust the speed. if your ps3 is in an entertainment center (like mine) i would also recommend opening the back up as large as you can or willing to do. i went as far as making a stand (just big enough for the rubber feet) out of black plexi with 1" rubber feet for better air circulation. though it never got hot, my ps3 still croaked

Never use them. If you do and your PS3 ever needs repair, DO NOT TELL THEM YOU USED ONE.

Your PS3's cooling system doesn't need any assistance. It is not underengineered like certain other products. It already has excess cooling capacity.

These accessory fans can actually cause problems themselves. They are not built to the same standards.

If you want to ensure your PS3 is staying cool, just clean out the vents periodically. As long as the fan is quiet (ie. intentionally spinning at less than maximum RPM), you know your PS3 is cool.

and by cleaning we mean with a vacuum. The canned air is a hot debate around here.

When I owned a launch 360 I got one of these. It died in 2 months and luckily I noticed right away or it would have bricked the 360. There is no point to these. However, I do like the link to amazon and that fan. I might give that a shot just to see how it goes. It is only $16, and trust me I have blown worse money on worse merchandise (Look at the console I use to own).... :-)

The PS3 expells a lot of heat under normal operation. That heat you feel from the vents is heat which has been ejected, not retained. The PS3 has a very efficient cooling design. Feel around elsewhere on your PS3 and notice that other parts of it like the Blu-ray drive bay aren't hot at all.

As for original 60 gig PS3's bricking after two years, what you're seeing is a few people on the forums who have been unlucky getting together and trying to whip up a panic based on a small amount of anecdotal evidence.

There are millions of original 60 gig PS3's out there. If a substantial percentage of them were failing right now, you wouldn't just see some forum messages about it. There would be an overwhelming flood of them.

Remember, this is the internet. You're always going to hear from the 1% that had trouble. And they're going to yell loudly at every possible opportunity in order to make themselves appear to be the majority.

My own original 60 gig continues to chug along without so much as a hiccup. And it's been in constant use every day since I bought it. There can't be many PS3s out there which have as much wear and tear as mine. But it continues to show no signs of it.

Don't buy into these forum scares. Just do regular maintenance on your PS3 (ie. clean it), and it should last a long time.

You mean how some people keep pushing the "Yellow Light Of Death?" Why do people always feel that everything, even bad, has to have a catchy name or slogan? The 360 has the Red Ring of Death, so someone has to come up with this catchy little slogan of the YLoD? Either way it is a very small issue for about 1% of ps3 owners. Yet if you go on scea.com either trolls or a few people try to get everyone nervous thinking the ps3 has a failure rate worse then the 360. Let me go on record right now and say that the 360 has the worst failure rate of any merchandise without a full scale recall.

everyone knows the PS3 has a greater failure rate than the 360. Just like I learned today that RE5 has better graphics on the 360 than the PS3.

(haha. But this seriously, this guy is right. The likelihood of the PS3 crashing is slim. You're just hearing a lot about it because you're on a PS3 specific board. Vacuum the dust, keep the area clean, make sure it can breathe and you're golden.)
