Default Are they ever gonna fix this? Panny BD-30 Sound Issue.

The master audio POP! been a while since i have heard this but man i had the sound pretty cranked and it about gave me heart attack, thought a gun shot went off.

panny bd-30 and an integra amp!

figured this would be resolved by now but it was a new movie! and many recent master audio tracks have not had this problem lately.

unfortunately i can't remember now lol, was reading the thread about caspian and the reverse track and it dawned on me i forgot to post about this. It was a master audio track of a movie to come out in the past 2-3 weeks tops, best i can do at narrowing it down. A lot of MA track movies have come out since the last time i had a movie do this, so of course in no way was it expected, and my bud that was over had never been over when this issue was more common so he jumped big time lol, i can not stress how loud it was. I am not even sure what does this, i thought i had read it had to be certain tracks with pretty much my two pieces of gear hooked up and bitstreaming just can'y believe this happened again

not sure how long you have had blu-rays, but when i first got into them many of the master audio movies had this problem, i thought it was resolved either on the production end or through a firmware update, but this just happened and although i cannot remember which movie exactly it was, i know for sure it was a new release as that is all i have rented recently.

Onkyo and Integra amps/receivers were supposed to fix this with an update a while back. It was a so-called DSP update, which needed you to burn a CD image on a CD, and then play it through a CD player to your amp with a digital connection.

I wish you could remember the film this happened on. I also had the infamous "pop" on my Onkyo 885, but the FW and/or DSP update (cant remember which one fixed it now) I did to it ~10 months ago fixed this and I have not had one pop since. Have you done the DSP/FW update?

i will have to look again but the messed up thing as far as the receiver was concerned last time i checked, there was a firmware update, just not for my model, it was the step up and a step down i think that had a firmware update, and it did note the MA pop, the messed up thing is they NEVER released an update for the 6.8 which is the model i have.

EDIT: im gonna go a head and write a letter to integra informing them of the 6.8 neglect and see what happens i guess, maybe this was a larger problem for other models i don't know, but since this does seem to be able to be fixed on their end see if they might do something about it.

Are you using the PS3 as your movie player? If so, it's not causing the "dts pops"

yeah im not sure of what specific equipment combines for this, but the ps3 isn't part of it from my knowledge, the pop i am referring to is a huge amount louder then what ever your volume is at the time, and it sounds like a gun shot and is usually somewhere near the beginning of a movie, the one that happened to me was just at the start.

Are you sure it isn't just your speakers clipping because they can't handle the audio at that volume for that instance in the sound track.

I bet it is your speakers and nothing to do with the BD

in my case yes i am sure, this is an identified problem, happens during the decode of the MA track, and it also happens with the bd-30 player connected to an onkyo/integra......

for example at the same exact moment at the same part of predator two it will happen, i only know this because i found a thread that listed the times of the POP before i watched that film so i knew to kill the volume right before it happens, but yes this is an identified issue and not clipping, DTS is aware of it, and there have been firmware updates to integra receivers to alleviate this, but none for my particular model

Well I had this issue as well using my PS3 and Denon 1909 Receiver.. Certain Movies at exact points in the sound track only on MA Audio Track would give a huge pop if the volume was over a certain point... but after upgrading my speakers I no longer get this.. still using the same PS3 Player and Receiver.

I will re-verifiy tonight to make sure but haven't had any problems since and never updated any firmware in my Receiver.

what you had may have been clipping, but that is not what i am referring to, trust me this does not sound like clipping lol, it sounds like a GUN SHOT in doors

Exactly. It can only happen when bitstreaming the audio, which the PS3 is NOT capable of.

thanks for the move mod, wasn't sure where to put this thread since it is not all discs, nor is it just the bd-30 or my receiver, and i am still not completely clear on what exactly causes this except bitsreaming lol, anyways sorry to drop that in the movie section i thought i was in players to begin with

no its still not updated, i wrote integra a support email, because they don't have an update for my model of integra, but the update for the other model notes a DTSMA fix, so i am assuming they fixed it for that, and i am hoping they will tell me the update will work on my unit as well, or that one is in the works, forgot rambo was one of the movies to do this and it happened last night again with that, drives me nuts, and don't know if it was ever confirmed or not if this could, or could not damage speakers.
