Default Pirate's of the Caribbean won't play?- Do Firmware fixes!

Hello everyone. Longtime reader but this is my first post. I really enjoy this forum and am an early adopter and great supporter of the blu-ray format.

Right now though, I have a problem and I'm hoping you can help.

I have a Samsung BDP-1000 blu-ray player and a 55" Sony A2000 HDTV. Yesterday I purchase 5 new blu-ray titles including both POC movies. Regrettably, although the other three played perfectly, the two POC discs wouldn't load.

I have applied the latest firmware updates and would like your advise as to what I may be able to do to view these shows.

Thanks for any help or advise you may have.

Exclamation POTC plays fine on the BDP-S1 (with firmware 1.60)

I updated my firmware right before I watched it.

It does load slowly, but I imagined that it would either be slower or wouldn't play at all with the older firmware.

By the way, the firmware makes the Java apps load quicker on LXG and The Descent. The popup overlay menu on LXG is now wicked fast, whereas it used to be embarrassingly slow.

Make sure you update your firmware.

Yes, this was actually mentioned in the review at thedigitalbits.com. Folks will need the firmware upgrade (depending on the player). The one used for the review was the Pioneer player and that needed the firmware upgrade as well.

So according the the site, this was just updated on 5/21/07? Curious, did you have the 1st firmware update already loaded on your unit?? That too was suppose to correct the BD-Java issues (as with Descent) this is the version I currently have. I was just curious if you had this previously installed as well? Thanks.

Those with a Sony update disc - or really from any other BD manufacturer - can help all other users here by creating ISO/Disc Image and uploading these up to servers like YouSendIt or Pando it. That way those that rely on mailed discs and have a reasonable internet speed can download these files and burn their own updates.

It says on my player now I have version1.6. I did watch both Pirate movies but my oh my it was painfully slow to get those movies to play. I thought it wasn't going to work but it did to my relief.

Default Pirates 1&2 loading very slowly

have been reading up about this problem. I got both Pirates movie and when I went to watch them, I could not skip the previews. I either had to watch them or fast forward like back in the old days with VHS tapes. If I watched the previews, it would take over 20 minutes to get to the menu. I have the Sony BDP-S1 with the latest firmware 1.60. There are a few places that the screen has either has nothing or a coin (for the first movie) or a key (for the second movie) displayed on it while it loads. Does anyone know why it takes so long to load these movies? None of my other movies comes even close for the amount of time to load the movie. Is it just with this player people are having trouble with? After upgrading to the latest firmware the menus and everything else works find and the movie plays great when you get to the menu. But the problem is just getting to the menu to start it.

Love this site; I check it like I check email. Thanks for any help you guys can give me, Alex

I did do that; unfortenatly, the SONY store near me in Boca could not get the update to load; their firewall prevented it.

You would think that SONY would just ship some update discs to their stores...

Have you tried downloading the updated firmware off Sony's site? It is really easy? You will need a DVD burner to do it though. Are you having the same problems with the slow loading at different parts of the previews?

I have an APPLE computer. SONY only supports PC. Which, as I have said before, is odd since APPLE is a partner with SONY.

The previews, once running, are fine, if a bit washed out. The movie, when running, is spectacular. It's just the heavy JAVA menus that take a long time to load, on Pirates. When loaded, they look and sound spectacular as well.
