Hi, I'd like to ask anyone who has bought french TF1 steelbook BDs, if they include English subs to their BDs.

& even backcovers say disc doesnt contain English subs, manufacturers sometimes include it.

their steelbooks are tempting

so does anyone know, thanks in advance.

I wouldn't count for english subs. Probably the French subs are forced when watching the film with the original language.

oh really, that'd be even worse

though I heard forced subs were quite common in french territory, back to the days of DVD.

still if anyone has knowledge/experience about TF1's BDs, share with us

Well given the fact that I own a lot of them I can confirm that there's only forced French subtitles available on their releases; and on some releases, the original audio isn't as good as the French (for example: 1408, French Audio: DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1, English Audio: Dolby Digital 5.1...). The only way to get around them is playing the BD on a computer drive.

Whats pulp fiction like? Is it English friendly?

I wouldn't mind buying it but would rather have no subtitles at all.

Thanks.

A quick note about TF1's output:

Typically, their DVDs/BDs of Hollywood produced films feature imposed French subtitles when the original audio is selected. 99.99% of the time these do not include English subtitles (and they should not due to territorial restrictions). Optional English subtitles are only available on a few of the French films TF1 own the rights for. Plenty of their catalog releases do not offer any subtitles at all.

Well the only English you'll see is in the words on screen. There is, of course, an English DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1 track, but it has forced French subs.
If you're looking to navigate around on the BD, it's very easy as it's like "Film, "Chapitres", "Audio" and "Suppléments", so it's quite simply put.
Regarding the force subs, you're actually blessed not to understand French as it's really annoying when you're able to; see it just forces me to read them even if I understand the English audio perfectly.

Thank you everyone,

+ didnt know that there were territorial restrictions imposing no English subtitles, I guess its used to limit the import/export sales?

You're welcome.

Well I think territorial restrictions is retarded. What's so bad about exporting a product that will be unique anyway? I can understand for amarays, but Steels. Especially since they're catalog titles, you really wonder why they've gone for this ultra-nationalist strategy...

I guess it usually involves titles that have different distributors around the world + smaller companies, so while Casablanca (Warner) all over the world has English subtitles & same features,

Pulp Fiction (ditributed by Miramax/Weinstein in US) for example is distributed by Tf1 in France, Touchstone in Germany etc.

so they might have this agreement, so that if Pulp Fiction gets released in France, the German guy doesn buy from them & Touchstone doesnt lose that much money
