Zone 2 speakers are for sending information to another pair of stereo speakers, i.e. outdoor speakers or speakers in another room.

Zone 2 are for speakers you plan on using in another room. What some people do is send the zone 2 to their patio or bedroom or whatnot and have that as the input of another receiver. That way they are able to play music and whatnot throughout their house.

In a 7.1, surround is the side and surround back is in the back. I am sure all of this is in the manual.

The surrounds are your left and right side speakers, yes. You won't use the speaker outputs labled Surround Back Speakers unless you have a 7.1 setup. Also, that Onkyo model doesn't allow you to use 7.1 and Zone 2 at the same time. If you want to use Zone 2, you can only have a 5.1 setup in the main room.

Do you use speaker wire to hook up your sub? If so, you may have to upgrade to a sub that has a LFE input (it looks like a RCA input). The subwoofer would then be plugged into the subwoofer pre out.

Thats what i thought.. at the moment, i just have a panasonic surround sound package ( first thing i bought for an old set up ).. but im looking to upgrade all my sound, and its all new to me.. but thats what i was looking to find out, thank you.

Also, i've seen this receiver, but im looking for something around $500 or less.. with 7.1. Any idea which receiver i should go with for my price range?
