Default Deathstalker / Message from Space / Timewalker / Up from Depths / Velvet Vampire (LE)

Shout Factory is getting into the limited edition game.

Quote:
**FIVE LIMITED-RUN NEW TITLES SOLD EXCLUSIVELY AT OUR SITE**

If you’re a fan of fun schlocky 70s and 80s B-films then you’ll definitely want to read on. We are offering FIVE exploitation titles from that period for the first time on Blu-ray! Bloodsuckers, aliens, sea creatures...there’s something for everybody!

In August:
DEATHSTALKER (1983) / DEATHSTALKER II (1987) double feature Pre-order at @ https://www.shoutfactory.com/film/ac...double-feature
UP FROM THE DEPTHS (1979) Pre-order @ https://www.shoutfactory.com/film/fi...rom-the-depths
Both titles will release on 8/30/16
-------
In September:
MESSAGE FROM SPACE (1978) Pre-order @ https://www.shoutfactory.com/film/sc...age-from-space
TIMEWALKER (1982) Pre-order @ https://www.shoutfactory.com/film/fi...or/time-walker
THE VELVET VAMPIRE (1971) Pre-order @ https://www.shoutfactory.com/film/fi...velvet-vampire
All three titles will release on 9/27/16

Limited-run 1,000 units will be pressed for each title. Pre-order and purchase is only available at our site.

These films were chosen because we had existing high-definition masters and we thought they had enough of a cult appeal to warrant a small release. That being said, we consider this an “experiment” to gauge interest from you. If we find that this kind of offer is successful we may consider executing a similar promotion in the future for other similar obscure genre catalog titles that we have.

Wow those titles suck. and screw those prices.

Instead of using their success/name recognition to leverage their customers in order to spend more money on crap (bad titles, re-release gimmicks) they should maybe try and leverage a new distributor deal and remember how they built a loyal consumer base in the first place.

Yep, and their license on the Corman titles could be expiring in the next year or two, so maybe they're trying to squeeze these out now before it's too late. Maybe I'll look back and laugh at me complaining about the $30+ price tags, when they're selling for $100+ on ebay in a few years. Nah, Timewalker for $100? Never! :-P

I'll buy all five, but I'm disappointed that none of their 50s Timeless Media titles are getting upgrades. Perhaps if these sell well/out, earlier films will be given BDs as well.

Edit: $27 each plus shipping is pretty steep - it would be nice if they offered some sort of discount for purchasing all five as a bundle.

Placed my order for the Deathstalker double feature, comes out to $16.49/film.
Sounds like a good deal to me!

At face value, that's the one plus for the Deathstalker release. It's two films so if you're looking at a strictly price-per-film value, it's the best deal of the five.

I'm really interested to see how fast these sell out.

I'm really disappointed to see Scream go down this route. To have these shipped to Canada it would cost $210, or $42 a Blu-ray!

Do they charge your card right away, or only when the order ships?

They alluded on their facebook in the past to possibly trying something along these lines. Are any of these "classics" probably not. Are these better known then say some of the names released by Code Red and the like-most definately. And I mean to someone who does not scour for every obscure title known to have been produced, I worked at a video rental store for 15 years and I hope alot of that crap never sees the light of day. A turd is a turd even with a pretty Gorgon box. So if a company chooses to do something different for them and release 5 titles they normally would never had done, and the price is high...DON'T BUY IT. I bought 3 of the 5 because I wanted those titles bad enough. Physical media is going more and more limited...its not going away from that. Everyone should know Scream is a US based distributor and cannot ship overseas and why split money with a middle man? As for Canada..it's all on your country and its dollar.Scream does not control your rubbish currency.

A huge "No thanks," just like I say to 99% of Code Red's discs -- and clearly that's who they want to compete with here.

WAY too much money for these titles...

But as they know, people will pay, so hopefully in the future they can put out something I want, but until then, I have a lot of other discs to throw money at before these.

I'm in for Message From Space. It's a guilty pleasure plus it has Sonny Chiba and Vic Morrow.

I hope nobody pays for this so they don't pull this kinda crap again. But hey people pay an 40 bucks just to get an extra slipcover so I'm sure these will sell.

And just think if they released these titles on amazon like all there other titles it would've been 17.99 all together for both. It's not like they don't release niche titles like this regularly. They've already put out titles like Exterminators from the year 3000, R.O.T.O.R, House Where Evil Dwells, Ghost Warrior etc

I've never seen Up From the Depths, and I do want to, but I feel like over $30 for it when you add shipping is a tad high for a blind buy that appears to be just the film.

I guess sales for the The Thing, Carrie, Chucky and ROTLD aren't good. Usually those successes pay for these kinds of risks and keep those reasonably priced to entertain interest, SF completionists, sycophants and blind buyers. I feel terrible paying as much as I am for Carrie. I will admit to some resentment and remorse in that one...

Yep, and three of the four single titles could have also been doubled up just like they were on their DVD releases. (Velvet Vampire and Timewalker were on a Shout 4-movie DVD set that retailed for less than one of these single Blus, and Up From the Depths was also tossed on to a double-feature DVD). If these were all double-feature Blus, price would sting a little bit but it would still be reasonable. But when they jack up the price like this and make these lower-tier titles that were once delegated to multi-film sets into single movie releases just to milk the fans, and no money is going to middle-man retailers, it's clear they are doing this out of pure unabashed greed (they are a business = greed), and they know the fans will line up to get milked.

I would think sales should good if they sold 1800 thing, rotld, carrie on just limited edition preorders for 40 bucks. All that extra money usually does go to getting us this niche titles.

Just out of curiosity I wanted to look up number of topless scenes from Deathstalker. I thought it was about 10. It's over 25 : http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0087127/...ef_=tt_stry_pg
