Default Changing TV's ?

Hi

I currently have a 70inch JVC Rear Projection TV thats 720p, I've enjoyed this for a few years now, just wondering if it's worth changing for something like a 60inch plasma with full 1080p viewing.

Looking for some advice on this. Please help

I won't give you actual advice but you may want to consider how far away you are sitting from your TV. With a 70" screen you could be a long way back and the upgrade to 1080 may not seem significant I would think since you are downsizing. I always think more pixels the better but that is a lot of money to spend if your present TV is working fine.

ha idk man, a 70inch HD is still a pretty sweet setup. do you have the extra cash to spend, and how badly do you want a new TV? 1080p would definitely make a difference, especially if you are considering a 60" size TV, but since you already have a really big one that's HD it might not be worth spending more money just yet. totally up to you and how strong your desire is for an upgrade

I'm not sitting too far away from the screen itself, only about 6ft maybe. Just would like to experience the full 1080p quality.

Yeah the 70inch is still great, however i really would like a 1080p over the current 720p. Cash wise i can't afford the 60inch unless i sell the 70. Not too sure if the upgrade from 720 to 1080 is that big of a difference. I'd hate to get rid of the current tv only to find out it wasn't worth it.

Well sitting just 6' away you are definitely going to see the extra pixels IMO. There is a chart somewhere on this subject, but six feet sounds close even for a 60" monitor. I would even think you are getting some eyestrain on your current monitor being that close and the higher-def and smaller screen size might even give you a benefit in that area.

However if you don't have the money without selling your current TV I would think twice about it. I don't know pricing of used TVs but almost anything electronic has no resale value in my mind since it evolves so quickly. I would recommend saving up enough money to buy the new TV first and then selling the old one for whatever you can get and using that money to buy some more Blu-rays or an upgrade to your audio system. You will no doubt get upgraditis once you change that TV out.

Upgraditis is a virus you get from the internet via visual contact. McAfee, Symantec, AVG are all powerless to prevent it. The side effect is improved life experience at home and a thinner wallet.

I would recommend selling your current set and buying an updated 50"+ plasma (Panasonic/Pioneer/Samsung). I think you'll notice a big difference and an overall improvement.

If you'd like 1080p, go for it. I myself have a 50" 720p Sammy.. and HD is gorgeous to behold. Of course, I plan on updating to 1080 sometime in the future, but I'm not sure if the hassle is worth it. If anything, I'll get the 1080p at home and realize the difference wasn't worth the effort.

Last I checked, 1080p24 60" plasma is not cheap. PJ fan here.

If you are looking for full 1080p and want to stay relatively large you might consider the Samsung 67A750 LED DLP - the picture isn't going to be as stellar as a high end plasma or lcd even, but its still pretty damn good.

For a 60+" 1080p plasma, you are going to be shelling out probably 2x as much dough

not being familiar with the model you have, or are thinking of getting.... I'm willing to bet there are many more improvements to be had with the new Plasma..... Black Levels being one of the biggest probably......

If you can swing it.... a 60" Plasma at 6', is going to be pretty impressive still.
