Default Need new receiver!

I wanted to know what receiver would be good to replace my onkyo 606. The onkyo keeps shutting off on me and i can't take it back because i bought it at circuit city and they closed all their stores in michigan. I want to get a good reliable receiver that does Dts-hd,and True-hd but can't decide on which one. I'm looking to spend 400-600 on a new receiver.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but doesn't Onkyo provide a 2 year warranty? And I have had a 605 for over a year without any problems. Do you have it properly vented? If you have it in a tight space it may be overheating.

Mine is the RX-V663 it was about $370. The newer models are out now I think for $499 and the model is now RX-V665.

Yes it does the HD decoding

I'd go with the Yamaha 663 to replace the Onkyo. It's a much better receiver. The Onkyo might still have the warranty, but their support sucks, that's why I got rid of my Integra!

if you are willing to shell out 400 more you can get the pioneer elite sc05 for 999 at best buy untill saturday, absoutly nothing can beat this receiver for that price. This is a once in a lifetime deal i suggest you pick it up, it is a truly amazing receiver, and at that price you are getting a steal. I got mine for 1600 2 weeks ago but i went back to best buy today and got them to match the 999 price.

I would pretty much agree, if you can spend the extra $$ on the Pio SC-05 go for it, but otherwise until the other manufactures start introducing their newer products I would say the Yammy 663 too. Great little receiver for the price.

it should most def. have a warranty on it, save your money and get it fixed, yeah its a pain but dont just throw the thing out, its a nice little reciever.

The VSX03 has a true24fps logo in its product brochure. This seems absent in the SC-05 product brochure. (These are on the pioneer website.) Anybody know if this is an issue?

Iam just wondering could it be that your speaker connections aren't hooked up right. That would cause your reciever to keep shutting down.Have you checked them?Just to make sure?

My thoughts exactly. Check any "troubleshooting" tips in your owners manual.

And yes, if you contact Onkyo and have proof of purchase (your Circuit City receipt), then there should be no reason why they wouldn't help you with your 606.

Doesn't Audyssey automatically detect something like this?

Overheating or this would be the only two problems I could think of that would cause such an issue.

I agree,
I think he should be looking at why his receiver is shutting down instead of throwing in the towel and looking for a new receiver.
I don't know ,Has he ever even used the mic?

Get it repaired under warranty, and if you still are having problems with it, sell it on Ebay.

This is my point maybe we can help him here without taking it in for repairs.Sometimes the answers are obvious we just don't see them

This sounds like a short in the system wiring to me. Units don't just keep shutting themselves off unless there is a wiring issue.

Gonna see if there are any wires loose in the back causing the onkyo to shut off.

Just don't give up on it until you know for sure that its got a problem, and if so do what you gotta do to get Onkyo to fix or replace it since its still under warranty. I seriously doubt its bad though. Onkyo receivers have very good build quality. Like others have suggested, check the wiring to make sure nothing is shorting, and also be sure you have good clearance above the vents to allow the air to circulate so it doesn't overheat.

cant believe no one mentioned this yet. receivers have protection mechanisms that prevent damage to the unit. when a receiver is shutting off 90% of the time its b/c its overheating. The receiver has an internal temp cutoff. Onkyo's need to be well ventilated. How long does the receiver stay on before cutting off?
