Default Samsung BD-P1000 or wait for Panasonic DMP-BD10a?

I am really wanting to jump in the Blu Ray world and become format nuetral.

Here are the current offers...

Refurbished Samsung BD-P1000 for $499 from Best Buy but also recieve a $200 giftcard with purchase (which will allow me to purchase all the movies that I want)...

or...

New Panasonic DMP-BD10a for $599 from Best Buy when they come out but only wanting three of the five free movies...thus having to trade them out and costing $100 more.

Which would you guys choose...is the 1st gen Panny that much better than the 1st gen Sammy? Any help is appreciated!

All I can say is I have had the 1000 since early March(bought it when it dropped to $500) and have been completely satisfied with it. PQ is superb.

I went ahead with the 1st gen because I plan on buying another one once the they are 4th gen. Did not feel there would be that much diff between 1st and 2nd.

If the quality of the DMP-BD10A is anything like the DMP-BD10, I'd go with the Panny.

while I am totally happy with my BDP-1000 and don't plan to replace it for a long time. I would still get the Panny. You get 5 free flicks, you get TruHD & DTSHD decoding and an Allegedly better upconverter. (The bdp1000's upconversion did improve with the last firmware update though).

Definitely go with the new Panasonic, I'm waiting for it too. It can't be that long before its release and I as well want to know when that'll be!

Default I agree

I am also waiting to see what is coming in the next several weeks. By mid-summer several interesting new rigs should be out and that should make it far easier to assess which will best meet most needs for equipment that will be of use with expanded possibilities that Blu Ray offers in the coming years for new sound formats and the new technical standards required for the fall that all the models being introduced now are including.
