When was the last time all the movies that premiered in a weekend were critical darlings? Well, it's happening this week. Incredibly, there were 7 films that opened this weekend with a cumulative average of 90% at rotten tomatoes:
This has got to be some kind of all-time record. So which great film goes on to win the weekend by a landslide? Well, according to Wednesday night's tallies... it's Twilight at #1 of course! And Happy Feat Two at the #3 spot. The average Rotten Tomatoes rating for those two films is 35%. They'll make more money this weekend than all the critically acclaimed new releases combined... in spite of the fact that these two drecks already had their premieres a week ago. Don't ever blame the studios for making crap films ever again. It's the movie going public that's to blame for the kinds of films that are being made. They're the ones that are voting with their wallets, and it's pretty clear what they want to see every week. Bare-chested metrosexual vampires and franchise sequels are what they want to see. Explosions, comic book super heroes, fast cars, and gross out comedies. |
