Default 6x Bd-rom Drives Are Now Under $100

$94.99 with free shipping is a great price on a BLU-RAY drive that is 6X speed.

Very inexpensive indeed. That drive is getting horrible reviews on Newegg, though. I'd probably steer clear of that one just based on the reviews alone.

Regardless, it's a good indication of the trend, and we'll probably see better ones in that price range soon.

Nice find!

I'm not a fan of combo drives, but those are surprisingly low ratings for a Lite-On drive. I would take user reviews on that site with a grain of salt though. Their new 8x blu-ray combo drive is out now anyway.

I'm tempted but the prices are too high compared to DVD burners (of course), do you think that BD burning speed will continue to increase? Now we have 8x, I don't want to spend money and then find out that it became old in months, I would like to know what will be the "last" "X" speed (like DVD for what I know stopped at 16x) or worse there would be new bigger BD discs my burner won't support!

What do you think would be the time for me to buy a long lasting burner?

Just spend an extra $10 and get an LG combo drive.

Probably after the 8 - 10 years it took for DVD drives to get where they are.

Keep in mind the bd-r disc media prices as well. The drive prices might drop fast, but the discs might not.

Actually, BD drives and media are progressing faster that DVD drives and media did.

If you shop, and buy 15 packs, 25GB discs work out to about $3.50 each.
Not bad...

I thought it was worse actually like $10-15 each. What about BD50?

Do you know of a site that logs all prices to see the trends?
