Default BDP-BX1 HDMI Output Disabled

Hi Friends,

I bought my mew BDP-BX1 player today. I connected the player to my Bravia KDL-40S4100.

When i tried setting up (Easy Setup) my blu ray player, it does not allow me to select the HDMI as the Output video format. The option is disabled.

I am not sure what could be the problem. Any suggestions. I am currently using the Composite output.

Thanks,
Amit

Have you enabled HDMI control in both devices?

If you couldn't connect it with hdmi how were you able to see it is grayed out?I don't have this blu ray player so I can give you specific info but did you try hooking the player up to your tv with only the hdmi cable and do not connect the composite cables. I'm sure someone with this player will come along and help you.

Thanks masc360 for the writeup. This is what i did...

Step 1: First connected the TV and Player via HDMI only
Result: Cannot get any picture/sound on the TV

Step 2: Connected the TV and player via HDMI and Composite
Result: Still no picture/sound on the TV via HDMI but able to see the output on composite (1080i)

Could it be a posisbility that the faulty HDMI cable could be causing it? If yes does the HDMI option available in the BD player only if its successfully HDMI handshakes with the TV?

I just quickly scanned through the manual for your player online. it says that as soon as you connect it it should detect your using an hdmi cable. i would try a different hdmi cable, that seems like it should be the problem if not i would suggest maybe taking it back the player might have some problem with the hdmi output.

It's possible the unit is locked in a display mode. For example sony picked a unit to test off the line, and didnt reset it to factory defaults. Return to store for an exchange, or it may have been set to manually output a certain video format and the tv is not auto negotiating the resolution. Have you tried connecting a different unit or piece of gear via hdmi to that tv? or try a different tv for the player? also don't use easy setup, try manually selecting the video format, if you can get the unit to work using yellow, white, red setup reset the unit to factory default settings thru the menu.

Actually it looks like its the TV which has the problem. Just wondering how all the 3 HDMI are not working.
