Default Ashton Kutcher was almost Batman

Was considered for the role of Batman in Batman Begins (2005), but the role eventually went to Christian Bale.
Wow. I apologize if this has been posted or if it's old news, I was just skimming over Ashton's IMDb biography and there it was. Holy moley! Could you imagine it? It would've been Batman & Robin all over again.

It would actually be worse than any other Batman film due to sheer disappointment.

"WHAT ARE YOU?!"

"I'm Batman. BUUUURN!"

Kind of funny actually, as Kelso even played Batman in an episode of That 70's Show.

Who knows how seriously he was considered or even if he was actually considered. I heard an interview with George Clooney where the interviewer said he read Clooney was a Dallas Mavericks fan on Clooney's IMDB profile and Clooney said that was false so mistakes do happen.

At least it would have saved us Christian Bale's awful Batman voice.

Lol I actually remember reading that back in 04 before they started fiming. He was in consideration amongst a few others, I think I heard Eric Bana's name in there as well.

However, I think there was no chance in hell they would've given him the final role, his name was thrown by the casting department. Nolan however, was pretty set with Bale from the get go, he was very impressed by Bales performance in Equilibrium and American Psycho. I remember reading something abou Nolan's argument that the actor who played Batman had to be able to personify the anger and anguish that Wayne suffered in his early childhood while balancing the typical moral strife that every superhero goes through.

As for the voice, like it or not, that is the director's call- they actually had to digitalize his voice to make it sound deeper than it actually is. Whether it was Bale or Kutcher taking the helm, Nolan wouldve done the exact same thing.

Huh, that would have sucked.

I know that Cillian Murphy was also considered for the role, and he impressed Nolan so much that he landed the Scarecrow role.

He's way too small for the role. I think he was perfect for Scarecrow, though.

Ugh. Reading this made me remember this story from a short while ago:

Ashton Kutcher's Coaching Gets Bad Reviews
November 5, 2008

Coach of the year? Not quite. Ashton Kutcher has been having a ball as assistant coach to North Hollywood's Harvard-Westlake School freshman footballers. But the feeling isn’t mutual.

"The kids want him gone," says an insider. "They think he doesn't know what he's talking about and can't stand his tough-guy attitude."

Out of the huddle, the kids mock their famous coach and have even given him a special nickname: Ashton Doucher!

Interestingly enough, Josh Hartnett was considered for the role of Superman in the Batman vs. Superman film. Christian Bale was originally attached to this as well.
