Dear Blu-ray.com community,
Being a huge fan of Jean-Marc Vallée's film "C.R.A.Z.Y.", I've searched this website and forum to find more information regarding the Blu-ray version that only seems to be available as an exclusive Canadian release. I really want to purchase this title (and upgrade from my current DVD), but since I'm from Europe I have worries that the Blu-ray disc might not play on my European Blu-ray player (a PS3). I have not yet found information on Blu-ray.com or elsewhere whether the C.R.A.Z.Y. Blu-ray is region-encoded or actually region-free (even though there's a "Region A" mark in the Blu-ray.com review of the disc, the region-encoding tab indicates a "No playback compability information yet", so I have hopes...). If there are any members on this forum that can give me more information about C.R.A.Z.Y.'s encoding, I would appreciate that a lot. If the Blu-ray is region-free, I'm obviously going to order it immediately. Thanks! Last edited by Busara; 05-09-2009 at 01:26 PM. |

I looked at the back and there was no RC info, but you might want to try and ask them http://www.tvafilms.com/fr/index.php...w=article&id=7

Thank you very much for your reply Anthony. I will contact TVA Films using the link you provided, and hope they will respond to me.

What I have noted in the PLAYBACK section remains unchanged - - the disc is Region-A. It is locked and you will not be able to play it on your Region-B player/PS3. I will add an extra disclaimer in a few seconds as well. Pro-B Last edited by pro-bassoonist; 05-09-2009 at 08:38 PM. |

Thank you Pro-B.
It is a shame I won't be able to get a working Blu-ray version of the film then. I hope that C.R.A.Z.Y. will one day see a great European HD release as well. The film has always been so fascinating to me, most of all storywise but also very much regarding the visual and audio aspects. The direction and execution of the movie is pretty much beyond everything I've experienced - very special, very personal and memorable. Thanks again for your help guys. I'll treasure my DVD for now, awaiting a possible Blu-ray edition in the future. |

I have just contacted the distributor of the Dutch C.R.A.Z.Y. DVD release. The distributor is named "A-Film", and it is one of the 'better' ones overhere, focussing a lot on films that are potent and have depth. They have a pretty excellent catalogue of independent films.
When I hear more from them, I'll let you guys know. I'm not counting on any magic to happen, but if it does, that would be seriously neat. |

I just got an e-mail back from TVA Films, and it indeed confirms the region encoding of the C.R.A.Z.Y. release:
you are absolutely right that our Blu-rays are region encoded. They are all region A for North America. Unfortunately, your blu-ray player wouldn't be able to read the disk unless it is a region free player. However, most of the time blu-ray hard drives on computers are often all regions as well, so it all depends on the type of player you have available. I'm still awaiting response from the Dutch distributor of the film, regarding a possible European blu-ray release of the movie. Perhaps I should save up for a dedicated blu-ray player that 'allows' the switching of regions, via the remote control or so. I haven't yet done much research on the quality differences between PS3 and Standalone blu-ray players, but I suspect it's about time I should. When I bought the PS3, it was still the best blu-ray solution out there, but I can imagine times have chanced. ![]() |
