Here is the "infamnous" follow up to the retarded article that IGN spouted last week where they were trying to argue the case of the DVD being superior to the Blu-Ray format.
At least this week they have it right ![]() http://bluray.ign.com/articles/966/966082p1.html Quote:

It's good that they've shown a more pro-Blu-ray article, but their figures aren't all correct.

lol i see if they wanted to win hearts and minds of CURRENT blu users they should have released this article first
![]() Makes the same obvious points they made in the first article, they just had to reach farther in the hat to say why dvd is better. |

Blu-ray? No thanks. I think vhs will win the format wars for 3 reasons.
1) Vhs is easier to pronounce unlike bluray high-definition dvd discs. 2) Vhs tapes are black, the color of sexy pawness. 3) Vhs seems tough due to it's blocky-ness like a paper weight. Can't wait for IGN VHS article next week. ![]() ![]() |

Since the primary concern with people regarding Blu-ray is the cost, I wish they would have touched on that a little more. People see MSRP titles at Best Buy and think they have to spend 30 dollars or more and that's keeping a lot of people back from it, even people who would value quality and already made the shift to HD.
All they said is "gamers should buy a PS3". That's not a solution. That's a suggestion for a small subset of movie watchers. I wish they would have mentioned how much player prices are dipping (I think heard the number 130 being thrown around a couple days back), and also the fact that just looking around for movies can get you to the point of scarcely ever paying more than 20 dollars for Blu-ray movies. And finally, I wish they'd address people concerned about rebuying. It's absurd to use that as a reason to refuse to change now, because if you're the type of person who will rebuy a lot, you're just ensuring that you'll be double dipping later on. I mean, it's plain to see that given enough time, the industry will make a forced transition. So if you keep buying DVDs all these years before being forced to move on to Blu-ray, each one is one that you could potentially "have" to rebuy on Blu-ray. Say over the course of x years before the transition, you buy y amount of new release DVDs at about 15 dollars each. Then, when you make the shift to BD later on, you buy the same y amount of titles on Blu-ray for, oh, let's just be nice and say 10 dollars each. When if you had just bought the movie on Blu-ray in the first place, you'd have spent about 20 bucks each. look: DVD now BD later: 15y + 10 y dollars spent over a period of x years BD now: 20y dollars spent over a period of x years Notice that to stick to DVD and know you'll rebuy, you may be spending as much as about 25 dollars per title in the long run. That's a difference of about 5 dollars per title, and if you're a heavy movie-buyer, those instances of wasted money on rebuys can really add up. |

I don't even know where to begin with how absurd some of you sound. It's funny how personally you take an article about technology though. Just like they have different writers with different opinions on games, they have the same thing with technology. I love bluray as much as the rest of you, but geez, stop taking it as a personal attack getting so worked up over it.

Atleast they can give consumers the other half of their original bunk arguement lol. Well I can't wait for the Atari is better than PS3 article stating the graphics on the Atari 2600 are superior to PS3! JK but about time this AMAZING format got some love!

What I do see as a plus here though is that... even from a wholly unbiased or even fairly pro-DVD point of view... it's obvious to see how much the DVD > Blu-ray article had to stretch to make its argument. Its points are downright silly for the most part. In both articles, they basically tried to make the strongest arguments they could muster. And if one article was clearly a struggle to make any believable point at all... well... there you go. |
