I didn't care for Serenity when I saw it i theaters, because it had such a different tone from Firefly. Now, I think it's brilliant! I was also let down by Independence Day when I first saw it in the theater. Now it's my favorite film.

most movies i like or dislike right away but there are a few films that grew on me. for example i didnt really like there will be blood the first time i saw it. now its one of my favorite films. the fountain took multiple viewings to really see and understand all the symbolism (and the story in a whole) in the film. now i think its story is absolutely fantastic. one of the most moving films ive ever seen.

I felt the exact opposite way about Independence Day. I saw in the theaters, and much like Men in Black, enjoyed it at the time. Then, looking back on it, absolutely hated it. The same goes for Batman Forever.
As far as movies I didn't like until well after the fact, I'd say Hunt for the Red October, The Game, Shaun of the Dead and Return of the Living Dead. |

I must admit... I "liked" not loved Shawshank Redemption the first time I saw. 20+ viewings later I now feel its one of the best movies ever made.

There are some movies that the first I watch it, I didn't like much (Casino Royale, Live Free or Die Hard) but after repeated viewing, I really enjoy both.
However 99% of the time, I will know whether I like the movie or not in 20 minutes. If you're bored within 20, you know that movie will just be hard to get through and you won't enjoy yourself. |

I am pretty much set in what I like or don't like in movies.
I usualy am pretty sure I will like something when I go see it since I avoid movies I know are not my style in theaters. I reserve these for later when they are available on TMNHD and I might just be curious to see what the big deal was about the movie, like Brokeback Mountain for example. However I will never really like these movies nor have any wish to see them again. |

Not always.
Some heavier films, with heavy themes take me some time to digest and come out with a conclusion. But I end up generally liking these types of films as I inevitably appreciate a film that makes me think for awhile. Examples: Elegy House of Sand & Fog Brazil Also, sometimes a movie has some great moments, but overall lacks in other areas. For instance, Bram Stoker's Dracula was that way. I initially didn't like it, but some of it is so damn good that it makes up for the crappy parts and I find myself really loving the film. |

Certain films I will admit I may have to watch a couple times to enjoy, especially if they are complex. Also depends on my mood. If I am in a bad mood I may give a film a second chance, especially if someone talks through the whole movie in theater.

I try to do that also. Some people I know think that's crazy but certain movies are like that. Especially if you had expectations because the movie might have been good but not what you wanted originally (like when I first saw Twilight).
